Drawbar Adapter

In some photos it looked like there were some holes below where the tongue was mounted, so I went looking for some photos.

Found one:

Low mounted tongue.

I didn't find any mention in a quick look at the manual.

Wow! That looks better, but now I don't know where the leveling bars are going to attach. Can't wait to get a fresh look at my cutter when I see it tomorrow.

Read the "drawbar" paragraph on page 32 and the "attaching to tractor" instructions on page 33 to be sure you have it setup properly.

I think I already measured those when I was setting it up, but I'll check again.

Also, re-reading the assembly instructions in the manual (the dealer assembled it) those lower holes appear to be for shipping only... I'll have a look.

Normally, a pull type rotary cutter gets pulled by the fixed draw bar. Mounting way back off of the 3pt would have its own issues with the pto shaft during turns.

Yes. And these have the same issue with the 3-point possibly raising the hitch into the driveshaft too.

I don't think it would be bad to have the cutter further back though... I have plenty of driveshaft length.

When I was a kid Ford and MF offered “stay” bars. Each bar was two 3/8”x2” pieces of flat bar bolted together with slotted holes allowing them to telescope to a desired length. Two of these were required attaching to the tractor’s top link point and the lower link.

In practice the tractor’s 3 pt hydraulic lever was set in the bottom position of the quadrant and clamped in place with a spacer and wing nut.

The 3pt drawbar wouldn’t raise unless you did something dumb like use the hydraulics and bend it.

You have to be careful not to turn too sharp using a lower link drawbar as it may bend the implement’s tongue.
