It is a Titan 1800P pull type. I haven't been able to find a picture of one on a tractor. This is all I could find back when I bought it, and still today...

Like I said, I'm happy with how the cutter performs, but I have to solve the driveshaft clearance issue.

Not much clearance back about where the mower deck starts. Is that where the OP has tight clearance? I'd be doing some refab!

I’m guessing that is his clearance issue, looks to be a problem on those cutters.

Most cutters with a high mounted hitch like that use a carrier bearing and two part pto for clearance. For a one single shat like that most have the hitch design so the cross tube and hitch are even or lower than the mower deck, such as these two bush hog brand cutters. IMG_0993.jpgIMG_0994.jpg

Your hitch design is a little different than the titan. The cross bar in the hitch is farther away from the deck allowing more clearance.

Ah ok something like this. View attachment 601801

YES! That is EXACTLY it!

This picture shows my problem very clearly. On flat ground there would be no issue with it, but in the Ozarks we have crooks, ridges and valleys. If you're mowing over a rise, you can run out of driveshaft clearance in a hurry.

This more I look at the pictures, I don't think the hitch could be inverted. I guess I could look at drilling new holes, but that's some THICK steel to drill through.

When I wrote Titan months ago, they had no suggestions. My only complaint with the cutter.

You might be able to have a shop make some extensions that would bolt to each side of your hitch and drop it down and help a bunch, but yes it wouldn’t take much of a dip to cause clearance issues.

If I could have a machine shop put a nice bend in this heavy 4x4 steel bar, it would solve my problem, too.

(This is the 8-foot model of my cutter)

So, is my best bet to remove this piece and take it to a trailer mfg shop?

In some photos it looked like there were some holes below where the tongue was mounted, so I went looking for some photos.

Found one:

Low mounted tongue.

I didn't find any mention in a quick look at the manual.

Wow! That looks better, but now I don't know where the leveling bars are going to attach. Can't wait to get a fresh look at my cutter when I see it tomorrow.

Read the "drawbar" paragraph on page 32 and the "attaching to tractor" instructions on page 33 to be sure you have it setup properly.

I think I already measured those when I was setting it up, but I'll check again.

Also, re-reading the assembly instructions in the manual (the dealer assembled it) those lower holes appear to be for shipping only... I'll have a look.

Thanks for all the help.

What about something like these, both are under $100:

Yes. And these have the same issue with the 3-point possibly raising the hitch into the driveshaft too.

I don't think it would be bad to have the cutter further back though... I have plenty of driveshaft length.

When I was a kid Ford and MF offered “stay” bars. Each bar was two 3/8”x2” pieces of flat bar bolted together with slotted holes allowing them to telescope to a desired length. Two of these were required attaching to the tractor’s top link point and the lower link.

In practice the tractor’s 3 pt hydraulic lever was set in the bottom position of the quadrant and clamped in place with a spacer and wing nut.

The 3pt drawbar wouldn’t raise unless you did something dumb like use the hydraulics and bend it.

You have to be careful not to turn too sharp using a lower link drawbar as it may bend the implement’s tongue.

Yep, used them a lot. Still have a pair that will work on my 3910.

Thanks, Richard. It was so long ago I wasn’t sure if I just imagined it.
