looking at a t234 tym tractor, its 25 hp and the fel is rated at 1380lbs lift at the pin, with over 2000lbs breakout force,, compareing it to many john deere models, it beats their loader rateings ,on the green tractors on models with over 35 hp,, im baffled . Im looking at used jd models mostly, because they cost alot more than the tym. Im looking for a tractor that is light enough not to crush sprinkler lines and rut residential lawns (badly), but still be able to pull a 5' box blade, and dig out my ditch line. I have a 1963 ford 4000 now,its to big and heavy for my custemers yards.

Ratings are hard to compare. Some companies are conservative, others tweak their capacities to create sales. Who is better in the long run, that will continue to be debated.

One thought is some of the JD compacts use aluminum rear end housings rather than cast. Maybe they set the loaders to lift less so the rear end of the tractor stays on the ground better.

JD 3038e has a die-cast aluminum rear end. Can barely lift a full bucket of soil with a brush cutter as counterweight.

Not sure which of the 3000 series my brother in law owns but last year on visiting ran it some and was very impressed with the tractor on fel and pulling. My fel experience has been on much larger JD, a 5525.

I do find some ratings interesting on fel as was looking for a tractor with suitable fel and hydro this spring myself to add to hay work. Short story for my need failed at it but interesting to see the fel capacity some tractors gave and were lighter than the JD and Kubota are. Now does JD and Kubota run weaker front axles? Lighter weight tractors? Weaker hyd systems? Or has been said dependable info?

Simply put, no two manufacturers have identically designed, engineered, and built tractors. Therefore tractors in the same class but different manufacturers will never have the same performance specification values.

Id ask for a demo machine and forget the specs comparison until after you have operated the machines. Heres what counts:
Can you operate two functions smoothly and easily?
Whats the loader cycle time?
Time to raise boom to full height? Max height?
Time to curl and dump the bucket? Max dump height?
Max lift capacity 20-30 inches in front of pin?

Lift capacity at the pins is kinda useless in the real world as you generally want to lift a full bucket or a pallet of stuff on forks. At the end of the day its what you can do with the machine and how long it takes to do it.

Light machines and heavy lift capacities dont work well together. Without the backhoe or any attachments on my M59 the rear wheels suddenly get pretty light carrying full pallets of sod.

Every machine is designed with a balance between weight, power and lift capacity. My 2 series John Deere doesn't have a lot of lift capacity but it will easily lift the rear tires without counterbalance. It would be easy enough to have designed it with a lot more lift capability but that would have made it even easier for inexperienced users to get into a lot of trouble.

As has been noted before, John Deere small tractors tend to be a little lighter than some other machines with similar power. That's an advantage is some situations (mowing) and not in others.

Do some dedicated exploring! Did you know that some manufacturers loaders lift more then the front axle of the tractor is rated to carry!!!

How far the loader is ahead of the front axle (fulcrum) greatly affects how light the rear would get. If the front axle is mounted much more forward, then maneuverability suffers. Look at the entire package vs just looking at one number.
