Yanmar 155D running like crap

I have a Yanmar 155D that I use for tilling my garden. Last couple of years it has progressively weakened and now it is very hard to even get it started. I am going to do some checks on it and see if maybe it has a plugged injector but I believe it has a bad cylinder. I have to run it up to 3000 rpm just to move it and when I till it spews black smoke. Meaning it has unburnt fuel which leads me to believe it's a bad cylinder not an injector. It has over 1000 hours on it so probably due for an overhaul anway. One other thing I noticed, when I pulled the air cleaner there was a bunch of diesel in the bottom of the cap. Not supposed to be there........

Might try slowly cracking injector line while running to identify bad cylinder. Just remember those lines have high pressure. Good cylinder line cracked will likely kill the engine, bad cylinder might not make much difference.

Once u narrow it down to which cyl. is giving u problems..
..try swapping the injector to a different hole to see if the problem stays or moves w/ the injector.

Agreed to both previous posts. Also do you run use any fuel treatment on a routine basis? If not I would recommend using some in the future.

I was just mentioning how Bad my Hyd . fluid and screen was then the Fuel bowl and Filter wasn't much better. Never been big on fuel treatments so after seeing the filter and going through that, My Filter/Bowl gets replaced and cleaned pretty much Yearly. NAPA. has my filter and cheap. Also I never leave much fuel left sitting in the Tank for any period of time. The tractor sits outside under a carport so I have never filled the tank over half way at the most pretty much just a few gallons at a time. And there's opinions on it But I don't use Off road either with a dye. Straight from the pump. So my Tank & fuel bowl stays extremely clean and clear. Tilling which I did also, I never had much Thick BLk smoke. I've bogged it down and had "a lot" of Blk. smoke come out before so you may not have that bad of a problem. And if you go the route as Pumpguy suggests go ahead and run a pressure test and then your know what condition your Cyl. is in also. The RS1400 tiller in the Pic. is as low as it possibly can go on the first turn of Yr.. Notice the exhaust that you can see. No smoke.............

Filling your diesel tank halfway is the best way to rust a fuel tank.

Really? Don't think that's going to happen!! It's made of Plastic.....:laughing: Even if it was metal I don't think that will happen..... It doesn't have any water in it. Can't say anything about yours though...................

Oh. Mine is metal. It is a big problem with old tractors and motorcycles that have not had their tanks full. The condensation is the problem. My friend has an old IH tractor that the fuel line keeps getting clogged with rust from the tank.

At just 1000 hours, maybe it's just not broken in yet.
