Not sure what hammers you are talking about. But mine weigh about five or more pounds on my VanWamel Ditch mower and If I hit a stone, which I do, the hammer is pretty much garbage. You can't sharpen them to any extent to repair a missing chunk. They cut grass surprisingly well!

What do you guys think about the WoodMaxx FM88? I grew up using a Mott to mow the rough on a golf course my family owned > I know they are tough because when your a teenager and pissed at your dad, you can mow up a forest trying to kill the dam mower so you can go see your girlfriend...... story for another day. Anyway, i have a Kubota L6060 on order and I need to mow 18 acres or so in between hay seasons. Its 60 hp and the coronni mowers don't seem to go up to a machine that large.

My Dad did that with my 917 Ford. If I had known it could double as a Harley Rake, I would not have gotten one.

Well kinda along the same lines, I'm in South Carolina and I've also had my Caroni 4 years and the only problem I've had with it is the skids. Seems like they are made of too soft of a metal as they keep bending. Been thinking of taking them to a welder and putting some sort of support on them to keep them from bending.
So what problem do you have with your skids?
Same as you have. The skid front curved section bends too easily. However, the reason is not that the metal is too soft, but after years of skidding on the ground the metal is wear down, and its thickness is only a fraction of what it was when new. As I was mentioning in my previous message Agri Supply Co. will not ship me replacement parts because I reside in California. I found a way around, but it cost me more in shipping charge than the cost of the skids.
In the meantime I fabricated a bracket (see picture) to prevent the front curved section to bend. I think I will install the same bracket on the new parts when I receive them.

It looks good enough to me. I think the opening "trunk" makes the unit a little less strong, but who knows. I might end up buying one for my MX.

You should not be wearing out the skids. The skids are only there to protect the rotor. The mower should ride on the roller only. Raise up the skids to just below the rotor + knife/hanger when held tight against the rotor. Skids will now last the life of the mower. Good luck.

Besides adjusting the mower differently, you could also get a fabricator to weld extra material on the faces of the new (or old) skids.

I concur with that.

I'd just properly adjust them then weld some bar stock to the worn areas & carry on.
