2300' water line install

Finally installed 2300 foot water line to our barndominium. Its been such a wet spring the ground was finally dry enough. Not a moment to spare as we moved in the next day

Getting water is often a real chore, huh ?

Ours is a spring 1000' up the mountain (horizontally...about 60' vertical rise). Had to build a spring box, then put in collection tank, then we tried to Ditch Witch the line.....way too many rocks (fortunately, the would come out...not solid) so I bought an ancient International backhoe, and dug the ditch. We ran glue together 20' bell end joints of 1" PVC and slid 100' at a time inside 4" black corregated to hopefully keep rocks from damaging the PVC. This was in 1983...and it's held ever since...so maybe that was a good idea.

Pressure at the meter was 60 psi

Two small leaks were in the two big T's in the NPT threads. I should have used more teflon tape or pipe dope instead.

Great thread. We had a **** of a time on our 1500 ft run. Ended up doing 2" bell end. If I had it to do over again I would go with HDPE.

My spring is about 30 feet lower than the house and around 100 feet away. I ran the inch and a half plastic water line inside 4" heavy wall plastic pipe. That was 38 years ago and it's still going strong.

Did you price and or study the feasibility of using HDPE pipe? Buying that much the supply house should let you borrow the fusion tool so you wouldn't have to have splices. Wouldn't have hurt to have sleeved the run under your driveway. Thanks for the video.

Looks like one of the benefits of being in Texas is not much depth of bury required. Looks like about 15", so it make for fast digging.

The ground never freezes. Just needs to be deep enough to avoid damage. I put it in 2 feet deep where it crossed my hay pasture just to make sure I don't some day tear it up with a chisel plow.
