Start/Stop technology

Not too crazy with the feature in my 18 f150. Simple switch in the dash to disable., just have to do it every time you drive. Prob an override for the Chevy too.

I can't find anything anywhere that says it can be turned off in the OP's Malibu.

That's one of the things I never liked about Ford's and Toyota's cruise control VS Chevy's... if I turn it on in a Chevy, it'll stay on for eternity until I turn it off, days, weeks, even months later. Gotta turn it on each time in the others.

I for one am not impressed with start/stop technology and see it as a problems in stop and go traffic ... Of if it can not be disabled I don't want it on vehicle....Its a technology I am not ready for and dont think its right for the times.....

I have a 14 Malibu with start stop technology. Works perfectly every time. It start / stops with the AC on, so that won't turn it off. I never use max AC, so can't comment about that working to turn off the start stop feature. I wouldn't worry about the starter wear and tear. I have 100K on mine with no problems.

We have a 2017 Nova with the push button start, no keys. When stopping at a traffic light the engine dies just like it is supposed to.
Can this gas saver system be bypassed? I am concerned about wearing the starter out.

Edit.... We have a Malibu, not a Nova. :confused3:

You need to drive with one foot on the brake and the other on the accelerator

On my F150 there is a dash switch but I never use it. It doesn't start/stop that often since I don't drive in heavy traffic. It is automatically disabled in tow mode. I'm not sure what the big deal is. The starter and battery are designed for this function. Of course, I've been driving hybrid cars for over 10 years so I hardly notice an engine shutting off now.

I tried to live with the start/stop on my '18 F150. I finally decided it had to go. I found a way to permantly disable it by unplugging the current sensor on the battery. The current sensor tells the Battery Management System if the battery has enough strength to restart the truck after auto-stop. I have been running it for about 8 months now with no adverse effects. There may be a similar sensor on your car.

When the F150 came out with S/S on the 2.7L, people were worked up about the starter too. Then they found out it was a non-issue......just drive it.

The computer uses this sensor to tell the alternator how much to charge the battery. You probably shouldn't be disconnecting it.

Maybe I should not have but I did and also a friend's truck and 4 company trucks including the owner's personal F150. We have not seen any problems with any of them so far. The only visible change is they don't auto-stop any more. I don't mind them including this feature in the truck. They should provide a way for the customer to permanently disable it if desired.
