Here in Quebec they will go onto your property or work site and take samples.
Only stationary generators are permitted 'off road fuel', everything else must use road fuel!
A friend got caught with off road in his Kubota= nice fine!

i have two FREE plastic 15 gallon barrels i got from a local car wash, i fill them up iwth off road and pump into my tractor w a battery powered txfer pump from harbor freight - my dad loves it and can lift the plastic jugs cause he can lift them easily into the truck and strap them in with a rachet strap in the cab corners of the truck, just drop the hose in from the transfer pump, put the spout in the tank and turn it on, they store easily and no mess plus are light weight, we just roll up the txfer pump/hoses in a large 55gal trash bag for storage - dad cant life the cans anymore to hold up 5 gal to get in a tank on a tractor nor climb ladders and hold them either on our big tractors - helps dad feel good about still being able to help and contribute even though he cant do what he used to, hes 80

My problem isn't lifting 5 gallons- I like to set it on the hood so I don't have to levitate it over the tank for several minutes until the container drains. Problem there is tilting a full container into the tank without spilling a quart of diesel on the tractor if the spout doesn't engage the fill hole right away.

Turns out, this container with the tethered, snap fit spout cap can be tilted completely without leaking. Once the spout is in the fill hole, you can take one finger and unsnap the cap off the spout.

I wonder how many people use highway diesel fuel in their tractors instead of the cheaper ORF. I started out with HWF 10 years ago but when it hit $4.00/gal, I started to look for ORF. My last barrel refill a week ago was $2.899/gal, much better.

There is only one place to get off road diesel locally and it is higher than highway diesel at the local Caseys or Murphy which move more fuel, which means the fuel is fresher than what is available at the place with off road diesel.

2 mile drive

Way easier than cans

Andy

I think about this too. It'd be about a 2 mile drive, round trip. About a third of that is on the road I live on, 35 mph limit but I think people may go up to 50 or so. Perhaps Sunday morning would be a good time to go. Do you go any time you like or do you try to choose times with lighter slower traffic?

I let the distributors worry about driving the roads :D Even with delivery charges and tax it still comes out cheaper than on-road diesel.

Renting large equipment (not going to be driving tracked vehicles down the road very far!) and then having to refuel using a bunch of jugs was what finally pushed me to get an on-site tank.

I fill a 55 gallon drum twice a year. It has a pump, filter, and standard nozzle. Cost me about $150 to assemble.

I used a air powered pump like this, so I didn't have another motor that would fail. 12 GPM Air Operated Barrel Pump

I don't think that is DOT legal, but it works for me.

Joe, I like the rear pallet forks, what brand are they and how do you like them? Also, where did you buy them?

Looks like that pump is the new improved version, it seems to work good in the video but for how long........ TERA PUMP TREP1 Multi-Purpose Battery Powered Fuel Transfer Pump - 2D Battery, 2.5 GPM - YouTube

I use the same battery powered pump to empty out 5 gal cans of diesel. I put my 5 gal can on a portable workbench so the fill tube can reach the fuel tank on top of my Kubota.

If I was utilizing a bigger tractor and needed to refuel often I would definitely go with a different and larger setup.
