JD 6400 stops and starts pulling after it gets hot

The hour long time is what we've been talking about. The oil is maybe going through a small orifice like a partially opened valve, or your charge pump is worn out or there is a crack in the pumps line.

Ouch! I know splitting a tractor involves a lot of labor. My friend payed almost $7000 but he rebuilt everything while it was split.

Used to be a piece of haywire would fix it. Then a few bucks, then hundreds. Now, hardly anything can be repaired for less then thousands!
I apparently have an air issue in my power quad equipped 6200. Just shows itself in my hyd top link getting air. No other indications. My Menonite independant JD but not JD dealer says they can fix that as if they knew exactly what was wrong. I thought that might be the case with this 6400. I trust these guys to know my tractor light years beyond a real JD dealer!

This is an old thread but we are having something similiar happening on our 1993 6400 John Deere. Will work fine for a few hours about 2 then I get lights and tells me to stop. It is the hydraulic overheating light. We changed the filters and all new oil and still doing it.

What type of transmission do you have? What are you doing with the tractor before the overheat light comes on.
Do you have a loader, power steering?
Often, over heating hydraulic oil results from the oil being forced through a relief valve while trying to protect the system.
The 3 pt hitch is a common culprit. The 3 pt hitch incorporates a feedback rod which tells the internal valve for the 3 pt that the arms have reached the top and to stop sending more oil into a full cylinder.
If you have a feedback rod, it is fastened to the upper lift arm and goes forward to the control valve area of the transmission.

I have the quad shift 4 x 4.
Yes has a loader and power steering.
It has done it to us doing different things once when working roads with the blade and another 2 time plowing with the disc harrow.
I will have to do some research on the feedback rod.
