Need to slow down PTO rpm

/ Need to slow down PTO rpm #11
Sorry i am new to all of this, just own a tractor since 6 months. Also have no engineering background, and also am not native English speaking.

What is 'belts on a pulley set'?

thx
M.

I believe he's talking about two pulleys, where diameters of the big one is about 8 times the smaller. Tractor turns the small pulley, which is connected to the big pulley by a belt which turns the blade of your homemade "hand smasher".

Marcel - I watched the video. That is a most dangerous piece of equipment. Get yourself a chain saw and protective gear. Don't build something such as that.

Hi Oosik (and others),

'fortes fortuna iuvat' means 'luck is with those who dare to try' . I guess i live by that credo :)

problem is that i have around 900 small trees to cut, trying to clean up and cultivate my land after 20 years abuse/non-use. Using a chain saw will take too long, and cost me a fortune on chains (most are plum-trees (?)) and gasoline.

Seriously, after 6 months of tractoring i already found that danger lies in small corners. After last weekend's adventure i had to promise my beautiful wife to take things slower:

But thanks all for the consideration...

This factor 8 would be around what i need. Can you buy this stuff 'standard' on eBay and such?

"hand smasher".

:)

I want to build something that will cut little trees like between 8 and 12 cm diameter.

You can see what i have in mind here, only i am thinking of a flat blade, not circular.

Hope this explains.
That is a very interesting machine, however, I dont think it is any faster or easier then a chainsaw.

It also seems the injury risk is much higher then a chainsaw.

Plus you would already have the chainsaw there to fell the tree and cut into small enough pieces to pick them up and insert in the machine.

To each his own.

And no ROPS on that machine!

Do yourself a favor and hire a dozer to come out and push over all those trees.

Have him pile them in manageable size piles and burn them.

Easy peasy and nobody loses body parts.

ROPS is something that cannot be bought here in Poland. I am not kidding.

In general: i will let it go for now, maybe i should re-consider what i want to achieve. If it ever happens i will post results here.

Thanks everyone.

You could make a wood holder that lets you stack a bunch of those small pieces and cut them at once with the chainsaw.

If you do build that tractor powered machine, a chain drive would be an easy way to get the gear reduction you need.

Interesting thought, this holder. Let me sit on that for one or two days.... Thanks!

I don't think that particular design is all that dangerous, provided you put on an adequate shield to feed the sticks through.

However, I think I would build it using a 10 inch table saw or similar as the base structure and belt drive with pulleys to get the RPM up to at least 3000. Again, with appropriate shields added. Or, if electricity is available, just use a table saw.
