Did you have a bad day? Or just had a feeling to urinate on something?
Yes I have (by now) close to 1500 little trees (oak and plumb) to take out and make disappear, hopefully in a useful way.
So for me it makes sense to look for an efficient alternative. Sorry if I have wasted any of your precious time...
Chain saws are terrible for the small stuff. and dangerous as well. Those small diameter pieces are just a pain. I cut up a bunch this forenoon, and it was tough work for little good except it's part of cleaning up a big maple tree.
I would use a drum chunker to process bio mass fuel wood if I had a burner for it. I can imagine any coal grate burner would do, but such small fireboxes for most home units.
Instead, I cut the stove wood to fit one of the two wood burning stoves, (log burning), and chip the small stuff for mulch. I'm running out of need for mulch.
I can imagine the combination of crush and shear opens up the bark somewhat and speeds drying. That would be good. Handling fuel wood in a mesh bag or crate makes a lot of sense as well.
I've got the rear differential out of an Audi IRS. It's a nice compact unit. 3.9:1 or so. I might put a chunker on my project list.... right after the winch ;-)
Here in the US, someone who had to "get rid" of 1500 smallish trees would be encouraged to purchase, rent or hire out a wood
chipper. About as dangerous a machine as there is, and results in no useful fuel wood.
More power to the effort!
