JD Hydraulic Cylinder Rebuild Help?

/ JD Hydraulic Cylinder Rebuild Help? #21
I just came across this thread after having started the process of rebuilding the lift cylinders on my 460 loader last night. Rather than clutter up the JD Owning/Operating thread any further, I'll post any further questions to this thread.

Here's the other thread for reference. It includes some good info on how to take apart the older design piston as well (I had one cylinder replaced under warranty, so I'm blessed with 2 different designs).

Great thread, Pulled one of my JD rams off (power steering) last night and was stumped exactly like the original poster. Great information here, thanks again.

This worked on my 300cx loader cylinders as well. Thanks this was easy once I read this post. Way better than paying for new ones.

I have a 98 john deere 4300 with a 420 loader. where do I look for the serial numbers to determine which kit to buy?? thanks

HHHMMMMM:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

This is what I came up with:

First, I only see two different cylinders for the 420 loader listed this way:

Cylinder, Lift(420) (S.N. -013054)
Cylinder, Lift(420) (S.N. 013055-)

Then:
Cylinder, Bucket(420) (S.N. -013054)
Cylinder, Bucket(420) (S.N. 013055-)

Based on your serial # (013546) you would select the second one (because your serial # is after 013055.

From that, you would want part #16:
16 AH176273 HYDRAULIC CYLINDER KIT

I am not sure where you guys are getting the other part #s?

So again, my best guess is AH176273.

Kenny

I will PM you my phone # in case you want to call me about it...

Here is a picture of my tag. Don’t really know where to start as far as rebuild kit for the cylinders on the loader. Any help

420 SN appears to be 004692. lift & bucket cylinder kit appear to require the same kit AH176344

worn pistons can be hard chromed, and brought to original diameter, there are shops that do this if anyone needs it..
