yanmar 2210
i just bought a ym2210d.The good part is it only has 36 hours on it. The bad part is it has spent many years outside under a tree i think and the guy who last worked on it knows less than me. i know at a minimum it needs an injection pump, and i seem to have coolant in the exhaust. and i think a hydraulic leak under the transmission. i bought this to use on the farm so i cant wait to put it to work

Welcome to TBN.
Congrats on your 2210d, you will love it. As for the hours, I am sure it has way more than 36 hours on it, these hour meters roll over and over, however it probably still has a lot of life left in it, the 2210d was the largest 2 cylinder Yanmar made. Are you sure it is coolant in the exhaust? Or is it just water from being outside? Does the block have a crack in it? Does it turn over or fire at all? Your injection pump might be fine, why do you think it needs an injection pump? You need to provide more information about the machine. You will need to do a complete service on it too, which everyone on here can chime in on what you should probably look for and do. So give more description of the thing on when it last ran, if it turns over ect.

36 HRS on a 35 ? year old tractor. the tractor would be in excellent condition. Coolant in the exhaust / from sitting outside getting water in the muffler, blown head gasket.
If it's from sitting outside getting water in the muffler, you may want to at least remove the head and check for things rusted up in there

I'm pretty confident about the 36 hrs. no appearnt wear, just sunburn and a little rust on a few parts. but it looks like the powertrain might have been repainted at some point since i see one shade of grey under the outer grey paint. I'm also sure about the coolant, not water, in the exhaust since it was dripping from the exhaust along with unburnt fuel. it did turn over and fire but only for about 30 seconds with white smoke. the throttle had to be full on. i think this due to the fact that the PO tried rebuild the injection pump and did it wrong since it was only pumping one injector. i worked on the injection pump and got it to pump both cylinders but would only run at full throttle, then i totally messed the pump up. at this point i plan to pull the head, go completely through the cooling and injection system. i am going to need help on specifications like head torque and setting the governor since i think the po messed with that as well.

I'm thinking it may have hydrolocked with fuel and the PO tried to start it by dragging it. see my previous post. the story i was given was that the PO bought the tractor from his brother who was the original owner, but died a few years ago and the po bought it from the estate. is it possible to post pictures here?

Yes you can post pictures. Are you using your cell phone or a computer?

So you think a 36 ish year old tractor only has 36 hours???:confused3:

Highly suspect. Why would it of only been used one hour a year. Or 10 hours for three years then parked for three decades?

just pulled the head off and it looks like a blown head gasket. going to have head checked anyway.

on a side note the cylinders do not appear any wear at all. everything i can tell this unit most likely has only 36 hrs.

people buy things all the time never use them. cars pop up all the time that are 50 years old with only 10 miles on them. it happens. i think i just seen a 50s model Case with only 250 hrs. guy said he only used it to clear snow from his driveway.

It does happen but it seems to "happen" at a frequent amount here on this website alone with yanmars which are an obscure tractor... especially on a model that was never sold new here in the US? It was most likely sold new in Japan, used over there for a decade or two then imported here to be bought by some guy to leave it out under the tree to only clear the snow on his farm located in mid Louisiana ? These are more obscure models (not sold here in the US to begin with so rarer here), it's not like it's a Chevy car or truck that literally millions were sold and the chances that they would sit around unused by an 85 year old man were a lot higher...at that vehicles only rarely poo up that are truly survivors of this age.

It could happen but much more likely it would be an actual US model and not a grey but anything is possible.
