Ford mileage claims sparks lawsuit

The trucks over 1/2 ton don't have EPA estimates...My 17 F450 4x4 V10 is brutal on fuel....it gets 7mpg on a good day..empty and coasting down hill. Fortunately it's only driven about 3000 miles a year..mostly either pulling a trailer or pushing a snow plow... plowing mileage is sub 5 mpg.

But, like me, Tomtint - you need the F450 to get the job done. What would you do if you could only use a VW beetle to pull your trailer or plow snow. I want to have fun using/driving my Taco Wagon. Getting only 18mpg or so is the price I'm willing to pay.

LOL. I had a Class C Motorhome E350 (I think) with the V10..We would take it to camp on the weekends, apx 200 miles round trip and the kids at the gas station would take bets on under/over $130 in gas to fill it back up..That thing ran good but holy cow did it drink gas.

5 mpg is the price I’m willing to pay to get the job done. I can’t make 3 trips in a 1 ton cheaper. Or 10 trips in a half ton.

I hear guys telling me what MPG they are getting with their 150 and then I see what we get in ours. I knew they were all full of it

I'm with you there. I'm on a Ford forum all the time. I own a 2017 F250 gasser. Some of these guys think we'll believe their stories about pulling a 20,000 pound 5th wheel through the mountains "like it's not even there" and getting 20 MPG or better. This BS goes for any motor in any truck you can imagine.

Mileage ratings on the window sticker are never accurate. One can't expect to duplicate the parameters set when making those estimates. Far too many variance factors.

I recall 'back in the day' when my Dad, bless his sole, bought a new VW Beetle. Mileage estimate then was 30mpg. As a prank, I started slipping in a quart of gas every night. Then I upped it to a gallon. Dad forever swore that his VW was MAKING gas :laughing: I guess I should feel ashamed for doing that. But I'm not; its still funny to me.

When Dad was in the Marines, they had a guy that had a VW bug, tinkered on it all the time. They started adding gas and soon the guy was bragging all over about how great of mechanic he was, his bug was so perfectly tuned and maintained, it got such great gas mileage. Then they started taking a little gas, then more.. the guy went bananas working on it to try and get back to the great mileage. They soon grew tired of the game and quit messing with it, I don't think they ever told him..

This is my 3rd V10.. first was a 2010 F350 Dump DRW 4x4 and it got 9 on a good day. 2nd was a 2015 F450 DRW 4x4 Dump that got 7 on a good day.. This one is a 17 F450 4x4 Dump and yes..6.5 mpg. I think I have seen 8.5 or 9 a couple times when not pulling a trailer.

That was a prank from a movie many decades ago, the kid was dying of cancer so his father pulled all sorts of stunts to give him a good time.

When Ford started making the Ranger back in 1993 I bought one of the first on the lot. It was a basic model, the only options that I bought were the V-6 and power steering, and installed my own radio. My only mistake was opting for the 4 speed because the 5 speed OD had a lower EPA mileage rating... back then the nationwide speed limit was 55 MPH and at that speed 5th was too tall geared.
