Gas station’s diesel pump nozzle too big?

I have four - WWll style - steel - Jerry cans. They could easily take a 2 1/2" nozzle. So glad I brought them with us when we moved down from Alaska.
How do you keep them from rusting inside? I bought 2 new ones about 30 years ago and threw them out about 25 years ago because the interiors were so rusty. Since then I bought one at a yard sale for a couple of bucks which looked OK at first glance, until I got it home and shined a flashlight inside.

"How do you keep them from rusting inside?" I guess it has NOTHING to do with anything I do. They have some type of coating on the inside. These are TRUE military Jerry cans. AND it's our relative humidity here. Right now my Vantage Pro 2 says - 8% relative humidity outside. It's dryer that a popcorn fart around here. Even when it's raining. They are always inside my work shed. Up off the floor on a field pallet. :dance1:

The gallons per minute for the "car" sized nozzles appears to be about 10 GPM. For the large truck islands, the fuel tranfer rate seems to be somewhere between 20 and 60 GPM, but mostly around the 30 to 35 GPM rate. So for 5 gallon cans you probably want to stay with the smaller nozzle for the lower fill rate. The bigger nozzles can be controlled to give a low flow rate, but it's not easy and your hand will be tired before your can is full.

I also noticed a local station's off-road diesel nozzle ridge is too big. It sorta half fits in the fuel jugs opening but it doesn't go all the way in. If I fill slowly with the jug's vent open, it works. :(

I love some of those big high capacity nozzles.

One station I go to has the slowest pump I have ever seen. Last time I was there, I notice they had a BIG nozzle on another pump. It was as slow as the other one! Took maybe ten minutes to fill my modest Sierra tank. I can't see truckers wasting their time. The attendant, said, people have complained about it. What's the point of the big nozzle, with a low flow rate?

I stopped at one station to fill up a dump truck (50 gal saddle tank). It had the big nozzle, but the flow rate was non-existent. The attendant said I had to lay the nozzle on the ground for 30 seconds, then it would work (and it did). ????

It always disgusts me how dirty/oily the surroundings are around one of those high volume truck pumps.

Now, now....those truckers and equipment operators are people too.

Recently I saw a pump with two speeds, car and truck, one outlet and you select, diesel is like pouring beer, a lot of froth at high speed, have not seen the bigger nozzle though.

Yep, the diesel pumps at my local petrol stations have this 'speed' button/function... that, and the diesel nozzle is larger in circumference so that it shouldn't be able to go into a vehicle petrol tank.
