Meanwhile, go search for all the posters on this and so many other sites wanting to support Chinese companies instead of US ones. They want cheap prices no matter what. Their co-workers, neighbors, and even family are second fiddle to their wallets.

One hand does not wash the other anymore in this land. But wait, I can hear the screams when THEY loose their jobs because of overseas competition. Maybe they can find a job as an Amazon reseller ! Instead of buying directly from a local company, you pay someone to buy it for you from Amazon and then they ship it to you to hide the connection.

Glad my future will be absent from all the rats trying to hang onto the handrail as the ship sinks.

Explain how it's a bad move.....

Grow a company, or remain stagnant and fall behind.

While yes, it sucks to lose your job ( I know, it happened to me after 30 years), when you look at it from purely a business standpoint, and take the sentimental and emotional feelings out of it, it makes business sense.

I have to agree even though some folks lose their jobs, it is better than the company going under. Every company reduces staff when necessary in order to make a profit. You only hear about the big ones where it affects thousands. The local Mom and Pop outfit does the same thing when necessary to maintain their profit margin if they are smart otherwise they have to close their doors.

State or Federal Labor departments could deal with this by requiring that any replacement jobs be at the same pay and benefit scale as those dissolved.

Just what we need, the government telling business how to run their business. We would have no stores if the Govt was able to dictate labor wages. Go ask Bernie how that $15 per how minimum wage is working in his own campaign.

From what I have seen, most of the $15.00 an hour workers still aren't worth the $10-12 they were making to begin with..

"the government telling business how to run their business"... Ya that's a wonderful idea, they have their hand in enough of our business already...

That's not how things should work. If you own a business, it should be 100% up to you what you pay your employees. If times are tough, and you have to cut back, layoff, let go, downsize, freeze pay, cut pay, outsource, etc.... you should be able to take those actions. That should be up to you. If you can't get good, dependable people to work for you, then you should realize that you are not paying enough and you'll have to change your business model to support paying good people better wages.

I realize that for many people, working at big box stores is the only current option. However, government should stay out of it and let the market dictate the terms.

Good Lord... You can't find anyone working there now...

Both major chains are pushing more and more people into self-checkout. A Lowes I visited had no registers open, just one person "assisting" people use any one of the four self-checkout stations. As someone said earlier, if I'm going that ... I want the employee discount.

The French have this and more. Have you looked at what a mess they have on their hands now?

Businesses exist to earn money for owners, partners, or shareholders. Darn few declare their primary purpose to be providing employees with comfortable careers and benefits regardless of o'all success, company growth, or employee performance. You or I can replace a babysitter or gardener on a whim if we don't feel we're getting our money's worth.

It seems that Lowe's is replacing low wage unskilled labor with low wage unskilled labor that has its own management system. That said, having to reapply as a minimum wage replacement is a reminder that 'job security' is a concept, not a surety these days, and that workers are a lowest priority with Lowe's like every other box store.

IMO, that makes this the biggest news to the folks who will suffer for the decision, and stress is NOT a job benefit!
("No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.")

At our local MI Lowe's, you about need a translator to English. End of rant, sorry.
