I understand more now! People shoot around here all the time, we'll be sitting on front porch and I'm thinking pop,pop,pop,pop, $5,pop,pop,pop,pop,$10,etc.
I'd have to say my favorite for the money is a single shot 12 ga. I shoot from the hip, a nuisance ground hog, 00buck, it never knows what happened. For protection someone breaking in that would work also.
I understand for sport use, but where do you draw the line with capacity? 50-100 rounds?

I like shotguns, I'm waiting until the demand and prices drop a bit on the Remington Tac 13 V3. From what I read a wood stock is in the works..

Draw the line with the "nut" holding one, not with the gun or it's capacity...

Folks that aren't a nut, they won't kill someone no matter how many rounds their gun holds!

Remember when we had nut houses? Obummer closed them down, see how THAT is working out for us?

I have known enough gun nuts in my time. Sure many plink away at all kinds of stuff, few ever hunted for food. Yet, some yearned more to use their weapons for the targets they were designed and intended for. Some, just hoping they would get into some situation, where they could actually USE their military hardware. Maybe some just can't stand it any longer and go out and use them on their perceived enemy. I don't think that's a stretch.

I have a few AR type rifles. One of the large frame was an 80% lower that I had to mill out. I’ve got an AR-15, DPMS patterned 308 and 243.

My 308 is the most accurate gun I’ve ever shot (Fulton armory).

My AR15 was a gift from my father in law. I see the versatility in them and parts availability is great. Each one is customizable and unique and extremely easy to work on. I like having a gun that (if I need it) I can stick a large round magazine in it and have many more on standby. I have a .22lr conversion I can put in my AR15 (takes 10 seconds) and it’s quite a fun time plinking.

I got the 308 initially for protection from black bears and now is my go to hunting rifle. The 243 came along bc I found a great deal on the upper and I already had a lower that was sitting around empty.

If I didn’t have one would I do it again? Yep.

I do see SW has the 22lr in an AR, probably others make them as well. That I would have a use for. I have a nice 308 bolt gun, very accurate round..

I don't have an AR but my SIL does, 5.56. He brings it over regularly to shoot it at my range out back. I mostly shoot handguns and skeet which I have plenty of both handguns and shotguns in various configurations, but only a couple rifles.

I know it is fun to shoot when he brings it over. I don't see a need for one, but desire maybe.

When I served in the Army, I carried an M-4.

My Army issued rifles were M1, M14, and M1 Carbine, in that order. Many years later I handled an AR. It felt about as handy to carry as a chair, but felt good in the firing position.

How can you say that with the weight difference alone? Never mind the carry handle on the AR?

I always wondered if the .22LR conversion kits worked reliably.

Probably because it all felt so different compared to a conventional rifle design.
