Sig, I get where you are coming from, but your powers of persuasion are lacking. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. That being said, guns and dogs are completely different issues. While I get your comparison, it just drives people crazy that you keep making it. We have a right to bear arms, not dogs. Pits can be great dogs, they can also be bad dogs. Someone with children should protect those children. Even if it means being prejudiced against pits. You have to admit, pits are being bred to be aggressive by people who themselves should not breed. How does someone differentiate between a good one and a bad one unless they know the dog?

What people don't understand that if a dog is trained for dog fighting, it will NOT bite a human. What people also don't understand that dogs are a pack animal, and that chaining or not socializing them doesn't help their behavior when it comes to aggressiveness.

Since we can't predict the behavior of humans, why are we able to predict the beghavior of aniamls. the answer is you can't. No matter how an animal is trained there is te possibility of it attcking humans. Look at all the lion tamers who keep lions as pets ( Roy Horn of the celebrated duo Siegfried and Roy ) was attacked by hus "loving trained pet"

If any animal has never seen a small child often times attacks that small child not understanding what it is- this happens all the time.

I trained dogs for the Police department,I ve seen highly train dog "go off the deep end" for unknown resons. One German Shepherd that was in our house and was the most timid German Shepherd I ever owned turned on my brother and was going for his throat. The dog chased my brother on top of the couch and was attacking him. I grabbed the dog by the throat to choke it, it calmed down but snarled at him afterwords. I got rid t=of the dog the next day.

Bottom line NO ONE on the planet can predict animal behavio no matter how tat animaal was trained. You can't train out the DNA of an animal.

I went over to a friends house for dinner last week, as I entered the house thunder began to clap, and his large Shepherd became aggressive.
Needless to say he bit my right hand between my thumb and index finger almost all the way through!
No warning, no growling, just a fast metallic clip sound and I was bleeding bad.

Im not a person that's afraid of dogs, I use to have 4 dobermans, (not all at 1 time) but this dog, is supposed to be gentle!

I told my friend that he was lucky it was me an not a small child or neighbor, or he would be shopping for a lawyer to defend himself.

I still can barely make a fist...

I have seen dogs line bred to the point the are nothing but killing machine I had people that I knew that bred fighting dogs I knew of a dog that was double line bred they kept him in a cage made of rebar and had to handle him with catch poles. These are people who know how to handle mean dogs. Are they all aggressive towards humans? No but many are . It is really a shame because I have seen some really sweet pit bulls. Some of the bull type dogs bred in the south for hog hunting are getting away from the bull dog name black nose cur is one that comes to mind.
