There are 3 different Chambers in .223 .556. they are all different. .223 is for .223 only. .556 has an expansion area in it. It prevents the extra power from damaging the gun or shooter. .223 Wylde is a special chamber for both. It has no expansion chamber but is made stronger to take the power of.556. .556 is unsafe in a .223 chamber. The expansion space will reduce accuracy with .223 in a .556 chamber. .223 Wylde works equally well with both. No it is not safe to shoot .556 in a standard .223 chamber.

Out of all the stupid people in this world, can you provide at least one documented incident where shooting a 5.56 caliber cartridge in a .223 bolt rifle "exploded" the rifle?

What exactly do you mean by "extra power" of the 5.56 round? Do you mean SAAMI pressures?

The reality is ANY gun shooting the proper round can still go boom in a bad way...

Key question is how many rounds of cheap mil surplus ammo can you shoot through a modern day bolt gun chambered in .223? The reality is you can still be hit by a car crossing the street even though it doesn't happen very often.

The next door neighbor is in his 80's but he still shoots them with a .22. he hides in the woods across from his property and snipes them. He thins them out 8 or 10 at a time..

For the most part I have done away with more red squirrels with a ten pump powerline 880 pellet gun than any other gun..

You are correct... Out of my price range but top notch looking stuff..

The irony is you have at least 3k into your latest dog you own, and I've never spent a penny on buying any dog I've ever owned (and that's after having at least 7 of them).

The reality is a WW out of Maine is a mid tier rifle per price point, yet you consider it out of your price range. Just goes to show that price is really irrelevant depending on what you consider important.

My WW from Maine.

Why get all like that and start calling people stupid? Man, come on! There's crossing a street, and then there's crossing a highway. Every ar mfg. cautions against shooting 5.56 rounds in a .223 chambered barrel. Every. Single. One. Best case scenario, you're gonna run into extraction issues. Ok, so you're rifle won't blow up, you'll just be cussing your *** off as your clearing out frequent jams, oh what a fun day at the range! This is a pointless argument.

Also, I shoot surplus ammo all the time, it's fine for my needs, it's fine for your average shooter's needs, and I'll gladly take the price break when buying bulk...and I'm far from the only one.

Actually I have close to five now into the dog.. The dog is way more valuable to me than an AR.. I couldn't care less what someone else pays or doesn't pay for a gun or their dog, I don't see why we are talking guns and dogs again Sig.. Lets not start that nonsense again..

That will never change. I understand what you're saying about your dog though; I spent 3k just on one repair bill. I've given so much to my vet for my two dogs over the last 22 years that I'm surprised he doesn't have a yacht parked down at the pier in Belfast.

I'm surprised it went this long. :)

Nothing new, you missed my point. My point is what some people consider worth money others don't care about. No different than pricing out a 5k replacement cost on a HVAC system for a 100k home and people consider it too much money even though they drive a $40,000 vehicle or a 20+ k motorcycle.

We're probably over 20k in all my vet bills easily over the years. I know the feeling on spending money on pets. My only point is I wouldn't spend money for BUYING a dog and spend money to train it other than my own time.

I'm not calling anyone here stupid, only the general public. All one has to do is look up people on YouTube to prove my point:D

All I'm asking for is documented evidence on a .223 rifle blowing up by accidently using a 5.56 round. I've known some primer issues, but nothing going kaboom in a bad way.

I would never propose anyone intentionally shoot 5.56 ammo through a .223 bolt gun, but if you don't think there are people in the US who haven't used a box of mil surplus 5.56 ammo through their .223 bolt rifle by accident, I think you'd be sadly mistaken.

Shooting a 5.56 round in a .223 rifle is bad. I get it.
