I use 3 inch 6's in my single shot on red squirrels, I lead them while they are running down the fence line, my fence posts don't like it much but I would rather have a peppered post than holes in my soffits..

I didn't find 410 on the Benelli gun site, but did find sticker shock............... I'm a 410 and 20ga Dapper Dan man fan...............

Upon reading his suggestion I thought that "Benelli", and the cost associated with the name, would disagree with your Yankee frugality. ;)

What shot are using with 410 single shot? Maybe go up a size so it spreads out a bit more to compensate for you're age...:D

I have the best luck with the Winchester on the left with a good range of 50', the Rem 2-1/2 mostly scared the squirrels off unless they was passed out on acorns 10' away.......

I have never seen a red squirrel here, all grey and or chipmunks, they all fill my Jeep up with acorns and make nest, and wont leave the bird feeders alone. Although this year the acorns seem to be down so they haven't been around lately.

That's what I was thinking, maybe Italy makes a better gun then Turkey, maybe........

I have seen several guns made in Turkey, lets put it this way, they will kill squirrels just fine but I wouldn't give a blood nickel for one myself..

From what I have seen of them I can't imagine a semi actually working reliably for any length of time, I looked at a single shot and it was built so poorly you could barley close it..

The next door neighbor is in his 80's but he still shoots them with a .22. he hides in the woods across from his property and snipes them. He thins them out 8 or 10 at a time..

There are 3 different Chambers in .223 .556. they are all different. .223 is for .223 only. .556 has an expansion area in it. It prevents the extra power from damaging the gun or shooter. .223 Wylde is a special chamber for both. It has no expansion chamber but is made stronger to take the power of.556. .556 is unsafe in a .223 chamber. The expansion space will reduce accuracy with .223 in a .556 chamber. .223 Wylde works equally well with both. No it is not safe to shoot .556 in a standard .223 chamber.
