Slope...what is safe?? Anyone here ever roll over?

You just need to remember that old Indian... SOH CAH TOA. (Sine = opposite/adjacent, Cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse) Tangent=opposite/adjacent.)
The problem I always had with that old Indian is I could never remember if his name was "SOH CAH TOA" or "SAH COH TAO".

Yeah, and if you look carefully Jstpssng got it wrong because SOH is Sine = Opposite/Hypotenuse NOT adjacent.

While the mnemonic can be useful, it is pretty easy to mess it up.

Here is something else to consider. Are you ever without your smartphone nearby? I am not. Why remember a mnemonic when you could write out the definitions in a simple PDF and keep it with you in your smart phone? I have dozens of manuals for complex systems in my phone for browsing offline if needed.

But for that matter if you are in communication with the internet, you have the world's largest reference library in your hand. Think of that. Yeah, all the knowledge you could ever want about things like math and geometry at you fingertips. So if you cannot remember SOHCAHTOA or remember what stands for what, heck just google it. It only takes a few seconds, and you can find trig converters on line there also, or conversions and lookup tables for anything on earth. So you don't have to remember old Indians if you don't want to. :)

And I can't even remember what the definitions mean, sine, cosine tangent? I think I have it in book somewhere...

Or simply Google it.

Just remember one sine = opp/hyp

The rest are trivial.

I think at this point in life I'm math challenged, don't even know what this is supposed to represent. But it doesn't matter, cause I'm not calculating anything like that. If it looks steep I ain't going there.

Keeping in touch with my family is the #1 reason I carry a cell phone.
#2 is work.
#3 is looking stuff up.
I look stuff up all the time, be it for work, play, general interest, maps, satellite views.... it sure is a nice thing to have many libraries at your fingertips.

On car trips, my wife takes a printed atlas, looks stuff up on the cell phone, and looks at it on the big paper map. That's my only gripe on cell phones, the screen is too small.

I keep a list of my bottle opener collection on my phone so I can see if I already have something when we're out and about and find something. Stuff like that makes it worth the money. ;)
