Now that we are touching on suppressors for AR's. What recommendations do you have for a 5.56? I do love my AAC Halycon on my Ruger Mark IV Lite!

The primary question to answer on your end to give you a better idea of what you should look for is if the 5.56 / .223 caliber is the ONE AND ONLY caliber you would want a "rifle" suppressor for, along with how short of a barrel would you'd ever be using?

Personally, for a dedicated 5.56 can, my favorite is the shortest and lightest dedicated 5.56 can I own. Keep in mind, shooting a AR with supersonic rounds and a suppressor is not hearing safe no matter what the ads tell you (no way around the supersonic crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier).

Sig, I want the most effective suppressor and don't have a plan to use on other calibers. Right now I am sitting with a 16in barrel.

Go with ANY brand you feel comfortable with that has decent reviews that is both the shortest and lightest suppressor rated for that caliber (and not larger).

The next pain in the butt question I forgot to ask is if you want a direct thread mount or a quick detach mount? If it's only 16" 5.56, direct thread may be a good option. With a QD mount, I can switch cans on and off barrels pretty quick, even if the can is rated for a larger caliber (putting a smaller can on a larger barrel that would would with a QD mount would end up putting a bigger exit hole in your suppressor which isn't good LOL).

Thing is, if you want the most effective suppressor on a 16" AR barrel, to me the extra size and weight of the "best" suppressor you can find really isn't worth it price wise over a dedicated smaller and lighter can.

When I have people shoot a 6" can weighing 13 ozs vs a 9" can weighing 24 ozs without hearing protection, it's kind of a toss up to what suprpessor people think is actually quieter. They are both kind of loud with the sonic crack.

That said, my first can was a .30 caliber can which I can use off my .300 win mag along with my 5.56 rifles. It's nice, but bigger and heavier on a 10" AR. My last dedicated "rifle" can was the smallest and lightest, which I personally like the most on the 5.56 which I can still use on a 10" AR.

My one friend. While this picture was taken, he didn't own a suppressor. After he shot more than a couple, he absolutely had to get one (or two). Kind of funny, he called his wife and said "hey, we've got to get a couple!".

He got a 30 caliber can than he can use on his .308 and his AR's, and got a .45 can (same as in the pic) for .45, 9MM and .22LR (if he wants to use it that way). $1,200 covered his two tax stamps and 2 suppressors. That's actually a good deal for buying them.

Forward Blast deflectors are helpful at the range. I've wondered why they are not more popular. They do not require a stamp to possess, which saves $$ ;-)

Not certain if they are worth the squeeze on a 16" barrel. I don't know.

Now, if I was shooting anything at 10" or below in barrel length without a suppressor, no way I wouldn't be using one. Talk about going deaf quick...

Semi auto handguns such as the Sig M17 or Beretta 92 or Glock 17 are also used by the military in war. We have near exact replicas available to citizens in the US today. If we arent careful with the AR platform...they will be coming for these next. The goal is confiscation. It always has been.

What matters is the firing group...however I dont feel full auto should have been outlawed either. The AR is one of the best self defense platforms available in the US.

Excellent point. I own a Beretta 92, a Benelli M4, and an FNH Scar17; all used by the military. I also have a Browning A5 from the 1930's and just as deadly as the Benelli...

I own a few Colt AR rifles. I can swap parts with my son in the Marines and it would be like for like. I can file a part or two and make it not select fire but full auto.

When I hear other gun nuts try to say that mine and their AR are not military style weapons I know right away that I'm hearing a fool.

The "rifle" is the receiver...that's the component that makes a semi-auto an "assault rifle". And, the receivers do not easily sway into an M-16.
So, suggest you redefine "fool".

I would like a Noice Suppressor, a thing I used to call a Silenter... LoL, on my AR15, 20" Barrel, are there good and bed ones ?
What are the brands I should look for to get my money's worth ?

Thanks

I got this and really like it. Best I can describe is it makes my 223 sound like a 22lr

Yesterday me and my sons stopped at a gun store to look around, told them I wouldn't mine having a 9-m small semi clip fed pistil, didn't my younger son get on me about that, it's not a clip it's a magazine, I go know a magazine is something you read. Then I said like to have one with a safety lever for when the round is chambered, then that started another argument between my younger and older, younger firmly says you want a (Striker Fire) or something like that I think he said, my older says NO you want one with the hammer to pull back then set the safety, that's what my older has and my younger has that striker fire thing, just rack it or something, so they went back and forth and still cant agree. Me, all I'm used to is revolvers, so I have plenty of time to choose, I wont get one til next spring.

What ever you do dont say clip around my younger son............. 9 Most Misused Gun Terms

A clip is usually used to load a magazine. As in stripper clip like to load a Mauser or springfield bolt action rifle or an old Mauser C96 "broomhandle" Or the stripper clips used to load M16 or AR15 magazines with a simple adaptor. One other type of clip is the "en-bloc_ clip you stuff the whole thing into the Garand's magazine. But typical semi-auto pistols have magazines you insert into the magazine well of the pistol.

Typically striker fired pistols do not have safety catches or hammers of any kind. They have strikers that are usually "pre-loaded" by the cycling of the action and the final drawing back of the stricker and release of it is accomplished by finder pressure on the trigger. No hammer, no firing pin per se (the striker is the pin and part of the sear) and no manual safety. Although they usually have trigger safeties and drop safeties of a sort. All of the Glock line would be a good example . G17 G19 G23 etc.

At this point in time striker fired auto pistols are more popular than pistols with hammers. For various reasons, but probably the biggest one is ease of use and manual of arms just like a more familiar double action revolver. They are perfectly safe as long as you have at least two brain cells that still work. :)
