The guy needs a tarp. Or ask for one of those elastic nets for Christmas. I have one, they are actually quite effective for stuff just like that.

I wasn’t even hating on all the crap on the back. Check out the fix for the crappy hitch.

Not towing yet, but, an accident just waiting to happen. View attachment 620957

One of the great ironies of this is that it would have been far cheaper to just just a ball and mount it to the bumper than all that extra stuff he got (which sure looks new to me...)

I can't see much about the hitch at all, but am curious about the chain and hook. Here you can't "legally" have anything, unsecure, in the back of a truck. How they would actually determine what tie down methods are appropriate for what items is beyond me. And for what purpose? To simply not fall or jump out during normal operation or not be ejected in an accident.

The hitch mount was only a wimpy piece of bar stock that not surprisingly bent. The solution was to hold it up with that chain which is hooked to the GN ball.

I used to hear that argument a lot 35 years ago... about driving under the influence.
Usually it was from the worst offenders.

Still hear it today.....

Just as a note. I've used a weight distribution hitch for a few years. You know, a normal non sway control, spring bar Reese.

Yesterday I bought an Equal-Izer 4 point sway control WDH from the Facebook market place for $240.

I did so because I've always hauled trucks, Jeep's, tractors, skid steer machines and other similar equipment. I've never had sway at any weight.

Now I've bought a 28' travel trailer. It's light weight at around 6500 lbs, but has long and tell walls that air flow has great effect on. Sway is huge! Apparently, pulling a giant box full of air is way more dangerous than pulling 14,000 lbs of equipment. I'm trying to up my game so that I can drive this thing without being shoved all over the road. 20190724_185451.jpg20190723_202249.jpg20190723_192158.jpg

Rock Crawler, would a little more drop on the hitch help? From the picture it seems a little high in front.

Yes. The hitch that was on for that photo was a pintle and I lowered it all I could. The new Equal-Izer I got yesterday is 1.5 inches above level, do much closer. I drive it today after setting it up... Holy cow Batman! Amazing! These sway systems actually work like a champ!

It was night and day with us as well. We bought a camper and it came with WDH that had the break over chains and sway bars. Absolutely hated that set up. It was a pain to hook up. Had to disconnect the sway bars before backing it into a tight spot. And you would get sucked over when a large vehicle passed you. You would clench half the seat if a semi passed you.:eek:

We were looking into up sizing the truck or down sizing the camper when we decided to take a $400 gamble and purchased a Curt WDH with 4 way sway control. I'm a major believer in that set up
