Do you live in mountains or just no need for cell towers there? Where we live I can see one tower and there's another about 5 miles away.

I have a tower 2 miles away, but can’t hit it with any phone built in the last 15 years. Before I moved here it was a direct line of sight to the tower my provider had; I would sit at my desk looking at it but couldn’t hit it.

I have a new Bell tower maybe 2 miles away and can just see the top light. Surprised, because I rarely ever get more than two bars. Never an issue with call quality though, except sometimes it starts to echo, even though the call started out well, and I didn't move, plus the other party was on a landline. Maybe just seeing the top of the tower with vegetation and terrain in the way is the answer.

Our phone co-op requires a land line if getting DSL for internet.

My friends daughter mailed an envelope with paperwork to him and it was overweight so it came ack to his daughter. She asked dat why did it come back - he said you should have put two stamps on it. So she added a stamp and resent it. It came back again. Now this is a college kid. She put another stamp on the already cancelle stamp so she again only had one stamp on the envelope.

I wonder how many times she resent the envelope.

Had BELL out to repair a bad landline for me. I have two. Was surprised to hear that I am the only one using the cable that goes past my property. No wonder, no one else calls when the "remote switch" has an issue. Not that long ago, there was a shortage of pairs. A little longer ago than that, I was on a party line.

Was reading about millennials in general. Apparently they are quite level headed, easy going and not so mad at the world like some of us older folk. I would be madder than heck, at what I inherited, if I was them!

We're not leaving them in very good shape in a lot of ways, and I still expect them to pay into SS just as I have done all of my life.

The other guy called you so it is upon him to make introductions. Then it is up to you to decide whether to continue the call.

In Europe, we learned to pick up the phone and say our name. Like "hello this is Bert Zegers" Just hello is considered rude. Now I live in Canada and people picking up the phone say "hello".

How am I supposed to know who I am talking to?

If I call someone and the person picking up the phone says "hello" I will say my name and I will ask "who am I talking to?"

You should state your name and then ask for whom you were calling. If you do not know who you called then I'm loath to tell you.

The problem is they call back......without having learned anything. That just makes you have to deal with it again soon.
