Here as well, no rain and still in the mid 90's..

Last year I mowed every week up until at least Halloween maybe later. I didn’t mow at all in September and maybe only a few times in August. I guess I’ll never the mower to chop leafs ( unless it’s too dusty and leave them ) but I think the mowing is done this year.

9 inches of rain from the hurricane is just now drying out and parts of the lawn are turning brown. We haven't had any appreciable rain in almost three weeks.
I mowed today and it was mostly whispies. I set the mower a 1/4 inch higher when it's dry like this. Until it rains again, may not be mowing at all.
Which is when it's wonderful to go mow roadsides in the cab tractor staying cool as can be.

94 here today, 96 tomorrow. Miserable. Only early in the morning is it pleasant out, ignoring the mosquitoes that seem to like dawn and dusk.
But Saturday it will cool off and get back to normal.

My sister lives on the Pacific Ocean, North of San Francisco and her weather reminds me of Hawaii, temperate and cool to warm for much of the year
she doesn't get hot and she doesn't get too cold. Of course she gets earthquakes, landslides, tidal waves and wildfires to worry about.
I enjoy the seasons but as I get older, cannot take this high heat like I used to. But then I don't want to shovel snow any more either.

Weird weather in the desert....

We've had snow falling the past 3 days...according to the National Weather Service, this is the first time we've had snow on this date since they started keeping records 142 years ago, in 1877. This morning it was only 19 degrees out there. I decided to get out there and mow some weeds today, taking advantage of the wet ground because usually the mower sucks up so much dust it is hard to see. Kind of eerie - I'm used to clear blue sky but when I started the cloud cover looked like it was only 50 feet above the valley floor and the mountains were totally obscured.

About 11 am the clouds started lifting and ghostly wraiths were rising from the ground - something I just never see around here.

Then a half hour later, the tops of the mountains began materializing from the cloud cover...

This is my usual view of the mountains...

That first picture almost looks like the clouds are coming out you tractor exhaust stack or maybe that really is exhaust.......... If I moved out there the first thing I'd do is go on a tree planting frenzy, cant believe Ben Cartwright cut um all down....

Raining at the moment, high 30's outside. We may get some snow tonight. Probably just a light dusting though.

Yeah, with no rain all the trees are shedding their leaves big time, I have to mow (read vacuum here)every other day to keep the leaves out of my pool!

Supposed to be 98 here tomorrow (81 is the norm for this time of year) 95 Friday and 77 Saturday!! YAY YAY!! About time fall showed up! Still a bit till I fire up the stove though.

On a completely different subject: Do you know where Rainbow lake is? I won a trip there in my youth selling newspaper subscriptions.

Nope. That's the low-hanging cloud along the base of the mountain. No smoke out of the Kubota!

I have 36 trees around the place that I've planted. Problem with them is that they need water and out here Mother Nature doesn't provide enough water to keep most trees alive. So during the summer/early fall I have to water ~ 6 hours a day and that costs a lot of money. Any less than that and the trees start dropping leaves. It's what 6% humidity does for you...that mud I was mowing in yesterday is the cloud of dust I was mowing in today. Heck, the air is so dry that I can hang a load of jeans out on the line to dry and by the time the next load of laundry is done 45 minutes later those jeans will be bone dry.

Not familiar at all with that lake although you could wait for a rainbow and follow it, that might get you close, I'm near Lake St George, it's beautiful spring fed lake.
