Illegal deer hunting?

I just find hunting and killing for sport or fun an obscene human past time.

Understandable considering where you live.... I have this rule of thumb and that is, we eat whatever we kill. Mule deer, Whitetail, moose, elk, Antelope (tough as all ****), Big Horn sheep, whatever. I've consumed them all. Havn't shot a wild pig yet but I'm sure I will and we will eat that as well. I like BBQ'd pork.

Local whitetail hunting for me is eating it and they freeze well too. I only shoot does, have enough nice bucks hanging on the walls now and male deer are extremely gamey tasting. Give me a nice doe for the deep freeze any day.

No to all and yes baiting in Indiana is illegal, just like it is here in Michigan. Think I'd call the IDNR and report them too. DNR officers love that stuff., love to bust them.

Interesting situation here in Michigan. Traditionally, baiting hasn't been illegal. It's been made illegal not because of hunting "fairness" but the concern that multiple deer feeding in the same pile will promote the spread of CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease). I don't hunt and my property is near enough developed areas that it probably isn't legal to hunt, but I often see a half dozen deer or more crossing my yard a day without actually looking for them. I'm all in favor of tilting things toward the hunters because we've go so many they are a nuisance. You can't plant anything here without fencing it.

I’m not claiming it’s right and I’ve never done it but the deer are abundant ( over run in places) and the dogs have to eat too.
As long as it's all getting eaten by someone (be it human or dog), I have no problem with somebody taking as many deer as they have tags for.
It's when they take part of the deer and leave the rest behind that it chaps my hide.

Also violates wanton waste laws in my state. And it isn't to just deer. Others animals are also included.

Just because the game warden shows up, doesn't mean you called.

Those turds pop up unexpected and unwelcome all the time!

1. You said the property recently changed hands. Could be hes from where baiting is legal. No excuse for not checking the law.

2. I have seen stands set up on the property line so they shot away from the adjoining property.

3. I have a poaching neighbor and I have called the game warden on him before.

4. Buddy of mine had slob hunters next to his property years ago that shot onto his property. So we made pissickles and hung them above their stands the night before. That eventually escalated and ended up with my buddy getting stabbed by one of them.

Call the warden.

Other times they are there, you just don't realize it because you aren't doing anything wrong. I had a warden recover my beaver traps years ago (around 1993.) When I filed the complaint he told me when I went up the road and what time I went back through; also what time somebody else travelled that same road. He wouldn't tell me who it was but did get my traps back; and I found out who when the thief lost his guide's license.

Don't you just love it when a slob hunter put a stand a 'few feet' off your property Like they don't know, like they won't shoot into your property, like they will adhere to ethical hunting... No to all and yes baiting in Indiana is illegal, just like it is here in Michigan. Think I'd call the IDNR and report them too. DNR officers love that stuff., love to bust them.

I really dislike slob hunters. You know the type, litterbugs, beer can tossers and put a stand almost (but not quite) on a property line.

Just because a stand is close to the property line doesn稚 mean the hunter is a slob with no respect for property lines. I primarily hunt from the perimeter of my property. The conversation I have had with all of my neighbors is I only shoot when the bullet will stay on my property. I expect the same of them. I have let a trophy and several other nice deer walk because I couldn稚 be certain the bullet would stay on my property. Better to let them walk then chance someone getting hurt.

Yep. In my experiences, they are smart and good at what they do. I have never been in trouble. I have had them stop me and talk to me, they always hint at what I was doing 30 minutes or so before (because they have binoculars that see from 2 miles away and they creep around like Indians)
- Indian comment meaning Native Americans and being a compliment.
