IMO It would be a much better world if manufacturers were required to disclose factual profit margins...

Public companies are, private companies not so much.

Personally, I really don't care what their margin is. If they run their business better than the competition and meet customers' needs better then they should make a better margin.

I imagine that EA has a pretty good margin given that they get paid 8 weeks in advance of delivery (this really chaps my hide BTW), they have been very slow to invest in more capacity, and they have a cult-like following that will pay whatever to get them some EA gear. They apparently do not want to sacrifice quality for quantity and that is admirable IMO. It's a nice position for a business to be in, so I hope that they are raking it in while they can.

I don't begrudge any company an honest profit...then there are the drug companies. Those folks should all be castrated before being hung.

Neither do I but what is an "honest profit" ? ...can you imagine the riots if lawyers were only allowed to charge an "honest profit" instead of contingency fees on settlements etc??

It requires a helluva a lot more expertise and it's quite a bit more complicated, time consuming, expensive and risky to make medications than grapples. Margins usually correlate with those kinds of factors. I'd rather pay a high margin to save my life than pickup some brush from the seat.

Transparency...So consumers actually know if they are getting taken out of greed...

Again, this is public information for public companies. If you want to know this, then get their annual report and read it.

Since you are probably not buying every product that a company makes, a more relevant piece of information is the margin on a particular product. This is probably not something that you can easily find out. In an open market, the real basis to decide to buy something is your perceived value for the price relative to what is available from the competition.

I was pleasantly surprised that my wicked grapple arrived in 5 weeks. I was told 8-10 weeks when I ordered.

Buy from someone else if you do not trust them to not be greedy, Bernie. They should make whatever profit the market bears. There is a new EA customer born every day willing to pay ahead and wait. More power to EA!

You must have taken cuts in the EA waiting line

As to a better world, until pay/salary is quoted in percent of gross, and excess profit is willingly kept to sane values, until human greed has finally left the species, it will never be fair. In any case, the puppet masters are not about to allow it.

max

Actually, in a better world your salary would be tied to the value that you bring to the business. A business does not owe you a living. If you don't like your situation, you can change it. If you have a better idea of how to run things, start your own business.
