After my wife and I got married we set up a joint account. Then later I went to pay the rent.... no money. Later yet I went to pay the electric bill... no money. What the heck, knew I put my paycheck in the account.... then I see shopping bags around the apartment.... Long story short, I learned real quick that my wife was not going to have access to my earnings and investments if I was going to reach my goals. We set up separate accounts and have them to this day. I pay for everything of significance.

Many years, kids, houses, automobiles, dogs, health challenges, etc. later we are very comfortable. It was all due to years of savings and investing what seemed like only a few dollars here and there, sometimes only $5 a week in those early years.

At a recent function I congratulated an Amish couple on being married almost 70 years. I remarked it was quite a feat and asked how the fared over the years. He said it was no problem since they agreed on day one that he would make all the big decisions and she would make all the little decisions. As he was explaining the formula for marital bliss, I could see the steam coming out of his wife's ears in obvious displeasure.

Then he said, "Yup, who would have thought that, in all these years, we never had to make a major decision"? We all had a good laugh with that.

How useful is the dedicated slope mower for daily chores? This seems like a pretty pointless comparison.

Ask the people that own them. Most of them have experiences with owning conventional tractors and will tell you which type of machine does what best for them.

Everyone has their "system" for making their marriage and money work. My in-laws keep separate finances on some things. F.I.L. keeps his pension check. M.I.L. keeps her pension check. But both paychecks went into joint accounts while they were married. They used the envelope system for budgeting.

My wife and I never had a budget. We just kinda knew what we had, where we were investing it, saving it, spending it, etc... kinda like-minded, so never had to worry about who was spending what, where. We always discussed purchases over $50 (back then) and now stuff over $100 before making the purchase.

My wife's brother and his wife keep completely separate accounts. He pays for some things. She pays for others. It's kinda weird if you ask me. When you say "I do", my wife and I took it to mean we became one. They remain separate on finances. But that's OK, as it works for them.

Also, it's not a dedicated slope mower. It has a quick attach just like all their other machines and can take 40+ attachments just like all their other machines. I can't remember which owner took his into a swamp to remove a beaver dam with a grapple. The 8 tires helped it get in and out of the swamp pretty well. A conventional machine, or my single tired machine, would have sunk.

Straight claw, or curved claw?

I despise curved claw hammers. I haven’t found one thing they do better and plenty they can’t do.
