M7060 Rops 50 hour service... $1100?!

If filters and fluids are $500, I can easily see labor at $150 hr (or whatever) would run it up to $1100. Next time, just need to get in writing what they are going to do and cost. Labor hours are probably based on book, not actual time so an estimate would be exact. I'm sure the blade sharpening was probably more than buying new blades based on the outrageous labor rates. I'd tell the dealer you were unhappy and won't be back.

Spoke with dealer and all is resolved. The issue was the owner's manual had no mention of hydro/tranny fluid while WSM manual did for the M7060. We were both working under our own understanding. I'll get quotes in writing next time. I like this dealer and plan on a long relationship with them.

It's expensive to run a dealership. They have to make their money somehow. Plus, they want to and should make a profit.

Like someone said. Don't assume anything, get a quote. Don't like the high costs, do it yourself. It's only going to get even more expensive.

Changing 60 + qts of fluid at 50 hours is beyond stupid. I can see a filter change for sure but there is a way to run that fluid thru a clean system.

Don't make that assumption with tractors. Cars yes, but not tractors.

It may seem stupid from the outside, but I know the M7040 WSM calls out for complete fluid change at 50 hours. This includes engine oil, hydraulic fluid and the front axle/differential. In fact the star used to call out these maintenance items are solid black while others are an outlined star. Solid black star indicates the items must be done at 50 hours. Other stars are outlined (not filled).

That's nearly 20 Gallons of fluid for these size tractors! (I quoted the original values in an earlier post;))

Using Messick's web site as reference the hydraulic fluid, engine oil, front axle/differential fluid and filters (less both air filters) is just shy of $600 w/o sales tax. I bet this isn't mentioned when buying a new tractor. :D

Of the three dealerships I have worked at over the years exactly zero changed hydraulic oil at 50 hours as a matter of course. New Holland, Kubota, Kioti and Mahindra are the relevant brands.

M7040SU book called for complete fluid swap at 50 hours.

You'd be surprised at the amount of metal on the filter magnets, I still got some stuff at the next filter change interval after the 50 hour one.

The manuals are conflicting and after all, written by humans, not God. Sometimes common sense has a place in the decision making process. There’s no harm in changing hydraulic oil at 50 hours but a lot of folks think the benefits are limited or nonexistent.
