GM trucks have slipped

The other big issue with the new trucks is the increasing height. Getting in and out practically requires a ladder. I stood next to a 2019 F350 SRW and the top of the bed rails is 60" high. I have a new 2018 Sundowner horse trailer and based on some quick measurements, those bed rail heights would probably be a real problem on uneven ground.

I ended up abandoning my new truck search and will take another look next year when I have more time to decide what's going to work well for an all-around everyday driver and work truck. I'll probably custom order something with only the bells and whistles I want and put a flatbed on it.

A guy came to look at something I was selling and was driving a new ford 2 or 350 SRW. The bed rails hit about the same height as my shoulder. About the same height as my dump truck and it doesn’t have wheel wells in the bed. I hate a regular bed pickup anyway and would be happy never owning another one. The only advantage they had over my dump bed was the height. And they’re quickly loosing that.

I actually do kind of like a BIG grill. Liked my 08 GMC grill more than the Chev offering, kind of split up. I don't like all the weird (everyone is different) LED lighting around the various truck grills. Just reminds me of stringing out Rope LED lighting, willy nilly.

It the the rear view that bugs me more than the front view, although I am not a fan of the grill either.

From behind I find they look very tall and skinny. The stance looks wrong, although I am sure it is just something about the lines that makes it appear that way, I don't think it is any taller or skinnier than Ford or Dodge. The line across the bottom of the tailgate also makes it look like the tailgate is perched up higher. Doesn't seem as bad in these pics, but I find it looks bad when I am behind one on the road. Just don't like the look.

100% agree that the height is getting to be a problem. It is all about the look and that is taking away from the functionality. When I moved from my 2004 Chev to my 2011 F250 I had to close the adjustment on the gooseneck so my horse trailer would sit level, because they had already started the height wars. I can't compress the neck of the gooseneck any more though, so the next truck is going to be a problem because they are a good 2-3 inches higher now than my 2011 truck is. I am 6 foot and it is already a pain to reach into the bed. I have to climb in to get anything that is in the middle of the bed because I can't reach over the rails and reach to the middle.

I get that a tall truck looks "tougher" so that is what sells, but it isn't doing me any favours.

I have a 2017 F-150 4WD and agree on the height issues. I find myself hooking up my 16 foot trailer to haul anything that requires lifting more than 50 lbs or so. I just sold an old 8 hp chipper shredder and delivered it and it looked a little funny strapped down on the trailer.

I don't like the massive grilles either which is why I got the Sport model with black grille and trim. Looks a lot better to me. I suppose GM has that option also.

I will give some Kudo's to GM and Fords for losing the always on parking lights and going to the LED halo, especially GM. I don't know how many Government Motors vehicles I've seen with one burned out and one good running light. They are a PITA to change, least on my wife's Burb. You have to remove the grill and fascia to get at the lamp sockets. I replaced both with LED bulbs.

Disabled the sequential cylinder shutdown on her Burb too. Bad design, causes the motor to use oil. Simple fix. Pull the plug on the vacuum brake can. Problem solved. It gives a soft code so you can disable the code with a good code reader.

Better than the usual burned out bulbs that festoon pre 2019 models.....

I like my GM trucks, have owned maybe 20 over the years, all purchased new.My normal routine is to purchase every 2-3 years. Now that I am retired I only put about 5,000 miles a year on.Looked at the new ones and not too impressed.I had a client today that has a new 2019
double cab Silverado 1/2 ton,he really wishes he had his 2016 back.
Main complaints are the poor head-lights and soft rear springs. He says it rides good but lowers a lot with a load compared to his 2016.
