I think it's time to look for a harness.

One of the often overlooked things with fall arrest gear you need to have a plan on how lower the dangling person down to the ground. if you are working on your own you might be better off hitting the ground than dangling 20min then dieing If you have a helper it is not as easy as you might think to take the weight enough to release the hook to lower somebody down to the ground. You want to make sure your watcher is young fit and trained

Our harnesses come equipped with the foot stirrup supports that you're supposed to deploy after you're hanging there, so you can put your foot in there and stand up to take the constriction off of the crotch straps so you don't die from loss of circulation.

Except if you fall on someone, then the harness might at least save one of you.

So, nice bright, Sunny, warm day and what am I doing? TBN!

Started checking out the bucket kit for the basket case (me). Went to unwrap things, get the razor knife out to slit the plastic .... then I see the Do Not Cut! I'm guessing this is like the emergency rip cord on a parachute that you hope NEVER unfurls?

I'm guessing you're right, maybe some stitching to go along with the plastic?

What do the instructions say? The "Do Not Cut Plastic" warning may be there to make sure you don't inadvertently cut the strap and weaken it.

It is designed like that so you don't get jerked to a stop when you fall off the roof. If you fall the plastic will rip open and the elastic inside will slow you down

I found this vid showing the different types of fall protection. My guys like the retractables with steel cables

My intended use to is to help stay on a sloped metal roof, not suspension from beams. I'll toss a tow/recovery strap over the roof peak and anchor it to ground on the other side. I'll hook this system to that and use this rope to maneuver up and down. I don't ever intend to allow enough slack to go off the edge for this to fully deploy.

My hand injury was not directly related to the fall from the ladder, but rather to catching it on the edge of the sheet metal roofing during the fall. I don't see this harness preventing that type of thing.

2 years ago the safety police showed up on my job and caught 2 of my guys with no harness, $23 000 dollar fine! Ouch!
