Why on earth do you have a disposal and a septic tank? Its usualy one or the other. A 1,000gal tank wont help your situation much. Throw stuff that would go in your very expensive septic system into the garbage that you pay for anyway

A Harley for a mini-ex sounds like a great trade, the mini-ex will be a lot more useful and will probably put a similar smile on your face

The problem with any towable or 3pt hitch back hoe is you have next to no breaking force. I use to own a 3pt backhoe. Was hardly worth putting on my tractor. Almost faster just to dig by hand. Few years later i bought a 3,500lb older kubota mico Ex. Its like having an arm that can do everything. Best $8,000 i have spent on a machine. How ever once you get one you will find that your projects never end for it and you can never sell it.

This past summer i built a section of driveway 12x150ft long though a swamp. Swamp so soft it would have been impossible with any machine with tires.

I would like to see you do by hand what I do with my backhoe. The first one I had was a "Cadplans" kit machine with mechanical stabilizers, which was only held down by the weight of the machine. The biggest problem that I had with that one is that it would pull itself apart. Yet I dug stumps that my loader wouldn't lift afterwards. My 750 Woods at least doesn't ride up and down on the 3 pth; but I have to be careful because it will pull the tractor apart. Yet I have dug a lot of stumps with it, as well as a 300 foot trench to bury my water line. If you try to rip stumps out of the ground it won't work; but you just need to learn how to use it and go slow. My neighbors have a DR digger, and they are able to do a lot with that machine, also.

Hate to admit it but you are probably right even though I have ridden Harley痴 for over 32 years now my doc says no more riding due to my heart disease, he says I could have a attack while riding and it would not be a good thing, my Harley痴 have been sitting un ridden for many years in my basement garage.

Ok I am bringing this thread back up being I have purchased a Harbor freight Trencher/Backhoe.

So now the wait begins, I did purchase 2 extra axles and hub assemblies for it so I can have four tires on it to make it easier to move around, I all so bought 5 gallons of Ranch & Farm Premium Trans-Hydraulic fluid and a Qt of 10-30 Valvoline oil for the motor, I also picked up som 3/4x4 inch hitch pins to use rather then the pins it comes with which apparently oval out the holes over time, I will also be doing some other modifications over time.

Another thing I will be doing right away is adding a washer to each hub to help take out some of the runout the wheels have and I will definitely be cleaning out the hydraulic reservoir before I fill it up.

I will be posting pics when I get it and as I put it together.

I also picked up a ROPs with lights off a JD 1025 that the owner put a cab on, got the whole thing for 75.00 and eventually I will see if I can modify it or the trencher so it fits then I can put a sunshade on it and maybe some flood lights later on but that’s down the road.

The disposal was here when we bought the house and I have told the wife more then I can count that nothing goes down the disposal and she has been pretty good about it the last 15 years or so, I did have the septic guy talk to her so she knew I wasn’t blowing smoke, I have thought about removing it several times but I like sleeping in the house, and as far as tank size goes, that’s what the sellers put in when the house went up for sale, they had to replace it so they went the cheapest way to satisfy the county and was done while the home was up for sale.

Picked up a few more items for the trencher when it arrives, tool box, four 10mmx1.5 couplers and 10mm ready rod to cut into 3 inch lengths to extend the control levers and a 1-1/4 x 12 inch hitch extension and a 2 inch coupler for towing being all my other stuff is 2 inch.

Just received shipping info so now I wait for a call from the trucking company, I’m hoping it goes thru Fargo ND and I can pick it up at the freight terminal, that way I would get it at least 2 days quicker from my past experiences.

One of my upgrades showed up today for the trencher, it is a better hydraulic filter and also this filter is available at auto parts stores where as the one that comes on the unit is a hard to find metric threaded filter.

Going to call Masiondynamics and see what they want for a hydraulic pump that is running about 3.5 gpm, think that flow rate will allow me to use two controll levers and not over heat the hydraulic fluid. The 614470242 that fits is a 4.1 which I think is a bit to much, it was said you should stay within 20% of what the original pump is which is 2.7 gpm.

Actually, a 3 point hitch backhoe on small Kubota will probably also void the warranty if you break something like the case casting. Far as used backhoes go, there are lots of them out there. My dealer seems to sell a bunch and most spend their lives sitting unused in a corner. he always tries to talk customers out of them but hey, the customer is always right so they buy them and they sit.

In my view a tractor mounted backhoe on a smaller Kubota (or any smaller brand for that matter, is the most worthless investment you can make.

I much prefer (when I need a hoe) is to go down to Black Swamp or Herc rentals and rent a real machine, I can rent a Case all wheel drive extenda-hoe with my choice of buckets for 250 bucks a day, fuel and delivery included. Don't have to grease it, change the oil or even fuel it. Just use it.

You are right, nobody can expect them to warranty abuse or using a machine beyond it's design limits. They may have changed the wording but the way the Massey warrantee was written when I was shopping though, use of the backhoe would void the warranty. Period. If you lose the computer, they have a loophole not to cover it.

I would prefer to have a subframe but can't find one to fit what I have, and I'm not clever enough to make one. Renting sounds good, I'm thinking about a 20 ton excavator next spring. But often I can have the backhoe on, do what needs to be done, and have it off again in less time than it would take for them to deliver it.

I’ve watched almost all videos on the HF Trencher and ya there are a few out there that make ya scratch your head but over all it gets ok to good reviews, it all comes down to what you are going to do with it.

I just received a call from a small trucking company in Fargo ND and my trencher is there but they have no one there to unload it and put on my trailer until tomorrow morning so I will be driving to Fargo to pick it up in the morning, when he called he asked if I had a way to get it off there trailer if they brought it out Friday they don’t even have a lift on the trailer so I told them I’ll just pick it up there in the morning with my son.

What gets me is I have to be in Fargo at 2:00 today for a heart and pacemaker checkup and the trucking company has no one there so I can get it today.

Hey, you never know. It's definitely handy NOT to have a backhoe mounted on the tractor sometimes, like if you gotta haul off what you're digging up. Fill up your bucket with the hoe, go dump it wherever it gotta go.

I thought that HF backhoe in that video worked good, I like how he moved it around like he did. But it was so funny when that guy dug up his internet connection, I could see my self doing the same thing.
