Hey, you never know. It's definitely handy NOT to have a backhoe mounted on the tractor sometimes, like if you gotta haul off what you're digging up. Fill up your bucket with the hoe, go dump it wherever it gotta go.

For last 10 plus years I have wanted to put one on a stripped down 20 foot pontoon then make a rock rake type unit for it and then I could use it to pull my rip rap that sinks into the sand back up to the shore to rebuild my shoreline, after all I pay for that rock plus I am sure I could find other things to do with it, the only issue is lakeshore management might have a issue with me doing that. It has always been a idea in the back of my mind.

I thought that HF backhoe worked good but it was so funny when that guy dug up his internet connection, I could see my self doing the same thing.

I could see myself doing something like that also but with my luck I would probably dig up the phone lines that run down the side of the road.

The guy looks pretty laidback with life.

I stoped by the trucking company this afternoon when I was done with the pacemaker clinic and looked at the trencher, not much to see being it’s all created up but I wanted to make sure they had a way to load it in my utility trailer without needing my help and it all looks good, I will be picking it up at 9:30am tomorrow in Fargo.

You are right, nobody can expect them to warranty abuse or using a machine beyond it's design limits. They may have changed the wording but the way the Massey warrantee was written when I was shopping though, use of the backhoe would void the warranty. Period. If you lose the computer, they have a loophole not to cover it.

I would prefer to have a subframe but can't find one to fit what I have, and I'm not clever enough to make one. Renting sounds good, I'm thinking about a 20 ton excavator next spring. But often I can have the backhoe on, do what needs to be done, and have it off again in less time than it would take for them to deliver it.

Find a used one, buy it, use it and sell it. I considered that but I have infrequent use for a hoe so I rent them. Same way with a trencher. I can lay 500 feet of waterline in an afternoon with a rental Ditch Witch self propelled trencher. Did that before Trencher is half the rental cost of a hoe. For waterlines or buried electricals, hard to beat a trencher and no mess either.

Lot of people buy a tractor mounted backhoe to lay waterlines and buried utility lines. They all (tractor mounted backhoes) make a mess, tear up surrounding ground (lawn) and then you have to backfill the trench. With a trencher, the unit lays a nice pile in each side of the cut that you can push back in with a shovel, depth stays constant with the grade and they are 5 times as fast as any hoe. Minimal disruption to surrounding lawn or ground.

All depends on your wallet depth I guess. Far as a subframe, I'd think any fab shop with a CNC plasma table and some computer software could make you one.

reason I mention the case was I knew a guy with a Kubota mid size that hung a 3PH mounted hoe on the back and cracked his main case and Kubota denied the claim citing owner abuse. He was in for (I think, been a while ago) 15 grand in repairs. If I ever had one it would be a subframe mount and I have large frame Kubotas but the case is still a casting.

With a 3 point mount you impart all the stress on the lift arms and top link and those parts are attached to the main case. With a subframe mount, the stress is transferred to the frame itself and the frame is steel, not cast.

I already have the BH unit, why go buy another one? As I said before, that was the deal breaker for Massey when I was tractor shopping; and have stated the reason.

I would love to have a subframe, but can't even find one to fit if I wanted it. I am well aware of the possibility for breakage, but even the Kubota dealers I talked to about a subframe who said I will be OK as long as I don't get stupid with it. I also have seen an L275 with a case that had been broken and welded back together. I have a couple of bigger jobs which will go quicker with the excavator, but mostly I have never run one and want to try it.

To the OP; enjoy your new tool.
There might be a learning curve but once you get the hand of it you will find that it's quite handy . You won't rip and tear but at the end of the day will have accomplished a lot. Even the little CadPlan that was my first backhoe did a lot of work, I even dug stumps with it that my loader couldn't lift out of the hole.

Thats because he's half my age if that. That BH price is affordable for most people, I'll have check out a few more videos to see if I have a need for it.

(why go buy another one?) So you can make believe your Santa Claus why else....... Dear Santa I want a BH for Christmas..........................
The place I bought my tractor said I must have a sub frame if I put a BH on it, be fore sub sub frame technology kuboto had a wrap around plate that fits on back of trans case. I made that same plate for mine after my trans cracked 3 years ago.

Or something like this for 15,000, it has 261 hours on it.

I will leave my options open when I upgrade, maybe keep the 1705 and the HF Trencher and just buy something yellow like I have pic of.

I watched the video of the guy cutting the cable. I’d actually say the guy had some skill. I’d say he had run a backhoe before and it took a pretty good bite of dirt.

As much as I hate 2 wheel drive, I'd go with the yellow one. Ever since my trans-case cracked with just a pto winch on I wouldn't trust BHs on small tractors.

Yeh nice, congrats. Actually, that seat looks similar to the one I put on my gc1710. Does the back fold down?

The first one is a factory one, I think kuboto still makes it, if not then get out ALL your welding fab skills you'll need em. The next two pics is the one I made, 3/8 thick and took me 8 hrs. The time consuming part was try to trace out holes, make patterns that didn't pattern, had to ream out holes, bolt the two pieces on the trans, then weld what I could, take off then finish welding>>>Now heres a vary valuable learning curve, when taken off to finish welding PUT 2 TEMP, DIAGONAL ANGLE-BARS BRACES ON before finishing welding, I'd tell you why but I dont want to speak in tongues again............

I bought six 3/4x4 inch hitch pins and two 3/4x6 inch hitch pins two weeks ago to replace the pins it comes with being that is what most people are doing because the pins that come with over time wear out the holes for the axles and stabilizers and I also bought 4 washers to use with the hubs to take the runout out of the wheels and then in a small package I found the cotter pins for the two axle nuts. My other two axle and hub assemblies will be here next Tuesday and I already have the rims and tires to put on the axles.

I did get the controller mounted and laid out the hydraulic hoses so tomorrow all I need to do is put the front arm and bucket on, hookup the hydraulic lines, fill all fluids and put in some 91 octane fuel then start it up, I also bought four 3.5 inch extensions and couplers for the control levers so they are a bit longer, have heard that it gives more control of the trencher, I still need to call on a bigger hydraulic pump and also put the better hydraulic filter on the tank.
There are some other things I will do but I will wait till summer, not done with it yet, can’t wait till spring.

I will post the last pics tomorrow.
