Big drill bits

My HF drill press didn't scratch them. Slow, fast, oiled, didn't matter, it was not able to provide the torque on the slowest setting with the belt as tight as I could get it.

This is 3 pieces of 3/8" steel that I used for building my pallet forks for my bobcat. It took 40 minutes to get through like this: http://i.imgur.com/pQRDLoy.mp4

With my HF cheap drill press, I can drill a 3/8" thick plate on the slowest belt settings, and can drill a 1 1/2" hole using a Milwaukee metal hole saw in about 5 minutes using "WestLube" lubricant and keeping the shavings cleaned out of the hole.

In your video, if your drill does not have a slower speed and you are slowing the speed down with pressure pushing down, looks to me that you need to readjust your process, just a thought...

Also, with my drill press I can keep adding the lubricant while drilling the hole, and the HF cheap drill press forces me to use medium to light down pressure (does not create a lot of heat).

I would also only drill through all 3/8" plates with a 1/4" drill at once, and then drill each 3/8" plates separately with the hole saw.

A friend just bought an iron worker for more than some people pay for a house. Same guy who got my Hougen. I'm just helping him put a laser target on it. He showed me something like a 1" hole slug from 1" material. AMAZING!

I still don't undertand how it can do that. Poke a clean hole through so much material. Like, shear it off in precisely a clean hole. If you want excitement, poke a hole, or enlarge one in tempered maerial. That slug comes out like a gun shot!

I've taken 1" to 1¼" with hand drill, it wasn't fun, but it got done. I don't know of a machine shop in the area, I have my steel supplier and wood supplier but they don't do anything like that.

Old bucket/arms are 1.5" pins, new bucket is 1" holes. Suggestions on how to make them bigger?

I am interested to see or hear how this is done.

No I dont have any links. I dont actually have a set of spade bits, but several places I have worked always had them. We only ever had to order replacement inserts, never an arbor. So????

FJ's machine weighs just a bit more than my Case 580B; I for one wouldn't wanna see any pins smaller than 1-1/2" - my hoe has 1-1/2" pins EVERYWHERE on both loader and hoe, except for the main hoe bucket pivot which is 1-3/4". Never thought any of 'em was too BIG... Steve

The bucket pivot on my 310 was also a 1-3/4.
