Are there any refrigerator companies that make a reliable fridge anymore ??

Rooftop Package Unit marketed as direct replacement for Carrier.

Most likely made in Tennesse by Goodman, labled Daikin since Daikin since bought Goodman. Guessing since it was a Carrier direct replacment, it was 3 phase in a commercial application? That said, would probably have a 5 year compressor 1 year parts warranty, and if the coil was still under warranty (1 year) not certain why provisions wern't made to replace the unit if the coil was more than a month out? I do pride myself on treating people the way I expect to be treated, and dealt with Goodman directly for a couple of years and that's what I would of done to get the package unit up and running.

The key question what I don't know the answer to is out of Maytag, Kenmore and Whirlpool per the brands you mentioned, is it actually the same company manufacturing the product or has the name just been sold to another business for them to produce?

BTW: If you have a dedicated freezer, either chest or upright, there is a relatively simple way to use it as a refrigerator, and be able to swap the use of it, between refrigerator and freezer as desired.
I used that very system as a backup.

To make that point again, it's easy to turn a freezer into a refrigerator by the use of an external controller.

We have a spare upright freezer we only use when we need extra refrigeration, like quick freezing meat when we home butcher a beef or pig (freezes quicker if you spread it out on the upright shelves), so I also bought an external controller like this:

As far as GE appliance go, we remodeled our kitchen in 2010, replacing with all GE appliances. Interesting to note the reduced use of electricity the new appliances have.....for example, the yellow tag on our previous (mid-90's) Whirlpool 22cf side-by-side said it uses 1200kwhrs/yr, whereas the 2010 french door GE 25cf tag claims 600 kwhrs/yr. Big difference in power use.

Only the dishwasher has needed work, just a few months ago, the seal on the pump started leaking. Trip to internet appliance part place and their install video, and I repaired it for 30 bucks.

I have tore this GE refrigerator apart inside and out driving the wife nuts.LOL still cannot figure what is wrong. We purchased a new one yesterday(delivery Monday) just in case I did not get this one fixed.Will it be any better than this junk GE fridge we hope so.Sad to think we live in such a disposable generation.

Seems to be marketing past quality that may no longer be there in the product.

Kind of funny how HVAC manufacturers manufacture for the appliance name and push the "quality" as well in the end users eyes when it's a joke IMO.

They actually work better than the typical fridge since a lot of freezers are insulated better. They can draw an amazingly low amount of power if you use a chest type freezer instead of an upright, since the cold doesn't fall out on the floor when you open the door. I saw a couple studies that said 100watt/hrs a day (1/10 of a kwhr) for a 7-8cuft chest model....which compared to a fridge (though less cf) 2-4khrs/day.

My side by side Kitchen Aid fridge with ice and water was bought in 06 at the local Sears, after one year the freezer stop working and they fixed it, but now at times it's lot louder then use to be, dont know if its the compresses or the years. PS I dont like side by sides................

My GE Profile Fridge is a pile of junk, full of fans to make up for it's poor design. Ice cream is soft at best and you crawl on your hands and knees to get at it.
