Depends on how long your wrench is.

The open end wrench is 16" long from the center of the open end. I guess that would be center of torque.

Since the FULL name for torque is pound FEET, if your wrench is 16" center to center you would need 12/16 of the pull on the box end - 12/16 x 34 is 25.5 pounds of pull.

" I would not bother with torque on a small item like that."

Ron, since you were honest enough to admit that, so will I  ... Steve

But the problem is that I replaced the old leaking o-ring on the old elbow and it leaked. Now I bought a new elbow (pretty cheap @ $11.41) and I would like it not to leak. My concern is valid.
I hope this guy is right.

Re: How to tighten, 90 Degree Elbow 3/4" x 1-1/16-12 ORB O-Ring Boss on my PTO pump

The video is exactly right, as far as he goes - if you re-read my earlier post, I gave you the values needed for your LONGER than 1 foot wrench. Keep in mind that the longer your "lever" (aka wrench in this case) the LESS PULL you would apply to get a given torque value (as the vid mentioned, torque is the multiple of TWO values; length of the lever/wrench in feet (usually) times the amount of force applied. Your "lever" is 16" long, so it would take LESS pull than the foot pounds you need. My math in above post is correct for your situation.

Other possible reasons your O ring replacement may have leaked - dirt or rust on the sealing surface, a deformed washer on the old fitting, not quite enough squeeze on the O ring, maybe even a thinner O ring than it should have had - your new fitting should fix the possible bent washer, but it WON'T fix not having a smooth flat surface where the washer and O ring seat. I'd recommend paying close attention to ALL the above when you put the new fitting in; and if you can, post some pics of your situation. I learned over half a century ago that my drill instructor was RIGHT when he repeatedly told us "the MAP is NOT the TERRAIN" - IOW, we can't see EXACTLY what YOU see without pics... Steve

Thank you for your service Steve. Without men and woman like you, this country would be a much different place. But we are the home of the free because of the brave.
I'm going to attempt to do it without taking the hoe off the tractor but I will take a photo or two. I will make a mark at 12 inches, put lube on the fitting and torque it at 30 pounds. See what happens, fingers crossed.
Thanks again.

You're entirely welcome; BTW, the more pics the better - one of us "COFs" (CrankyOldFarts) may see something else that isn't helping you ;) ... Steve

BTW, the charts you posted aren't of the 90 degree adapters; all the 90 ORB/JIC's I've used/seen (a LOT) have the nut and washer behind the O ring. If you're using STRAIGHT adapters it isn't necessary because the JIC's can be tightened at ANY rotation so you can minimize any hose twists.

I figured I'd just throw that out there for others that may be interested.
Thanks

I did NOT watch the video (slow internet), so I do not know if it mentioned to lube the O-ring or not. I would lube it with hydraulic oil.
