What brand is the silver folding ladder? I had one once that was flimsy, yours looks very stable.

That's a long way to hand carry panels on uneven terrain. Wouldn't it be easier on both of you to put it on a trailer and bring it over on your UTV?

You have a good helper.

During our time in Alaska - 1960 thru 1982 - we built a log cabin. It was built in 1976 and is still standing and in use today. The hardest part - transporting the large Spruce trees from where harvested to where the cabin was constructed. The trees were harvested on State land - a distance of some twelve miles from the cabin site. The ONLY mechanical help during the entire build was the Warn winch on the front of my Jeep and a chain saw powered Alaskan mill. The concrete was mixed from scratch for the Sono tube foundation and all logs were two sided with an Alaskan mill.

Our water supply was collected off the roof and run thru two 55-gallon whiskey barrels. One full of sand - the other full of activated charcoal.

I would have been willing to build a cabin here. We could have milled the trees we had onsite and built quite a place sure that would have presented a host of other issues.

Do you have pictures of that cabin? I bet it would be educational at the least.

I have the same ladder, its pretty good, but not quite as well built as the original ladder of that type (Little Giant. IIRC, they invented that style ladder back in the 1970s).
Growing up, we had one of the original Little Giant ladders and it is still gowing strong.

Those are good ladders. I have one. Very heavy to drag around and sometimes a challenge to adjust into the desired configuration but once set up they work great. I just found out that you can add a wheel kit to make them easier to move around and I think I'll be putting that on mine.

Those wall panels sure take a lot of persuasion to get them into correct position. I'd think something could be done to make them less snug around the splines so they can be positioned without so much hammering, which seems to take up so much of your time. Isn't the sealant and nails that you use to join them at the spline enough to provide a good seal and solid joint? If the splines were just a 1/16th narrower?

When converting some of our old Sony video tapes to digital, I saw segments of our SIP house build (Floor, exterior walls, roof all SIPS). We lived in trailer onsite and had 3 little kids. We worked until midnight most nights and some jobs were best left until daylight.

We had halogen work lights (yellow stand with 2 500W lights) to allow us to work at night..
