Those wall panels sure take a lot of persuasion to get them into correct position. I'd think something could be done to make them less snug around the splines so they can be positioned without so much hammering, which seems to take up so much of your time. Isn't the sealant and nails that you use to join them at the spline enough to provide a good seal and solid joint? If the splines were just a 1/16th narrower?

Rob

The OSB splines are relatively easy. The dimensional splines are the ones that really fight you. I have started trimming those, because they are ridiculously tight. Doesn’t take much to make a huge difference.

When converting some of our old Sony video tapes to digital, I saw segments of our SIP house build (Floor, exterior walls, roof all SIPS). We lived in trailer onsite and had 3 little kids. We worked until midnight most nights and some jobs were best left until daylight.

We had halogen work lights (yellow stand with 2 500W lights) to allow us to work at night..

Hawkeye, we have a large led work-light but I never plan to be out there that long. Last night we were trying to get some panels in place and only got them prepped. I went ahead and called it a half hour before dark. Just not worth the danger. I am sure we will push the envelope envelope a few more times but I need to try to limit it, or we will burn out.

I am trying to get caught up. Here is another video from about 1 1/2 week ago. Building out the first window in our bedroom.

Another good video. You both are going to enjoy your home when it is finished.

Yes, Buckeye, i am fortunate. She is very patient and thankfully, she doesn’t get her feelings hurt when I get bossy.

Thanks Ron, We are seeing the lines of the house now and it mentally changes the feeling of what we are doing there. We are also pushing way past our comfort level on things and discovering much more capability in ourselves and each other.

I watched the video, you guys are doing great, just make sure you check the SIP instructions periodically to make sure you are not missing anything as you go along.. daughter and SIL reviewed them often as they installed their panels, saved them making mistakes as some things were done differently depending on which panel was being installed. I don't know particulars other than they were glad to have been reviewing. They are closed in (house wrap, siding coming later) and we just got the pellet stove working (had bad auger motor that we replaced) so they have heat to work inside.

Ahh the sip instructions. Today, we were working on the walls in the master bedroom. Yesterday we got chased off the job by rain. There were still some puddles of water on the foundation, and the wind was 12 mph with heavy gusts. The plans got blown away into a puddle and were probably there for an hour when they were found. They basically dissolved when we tried to pick them up. We set them in the truck to dry and tonight, while most people were watching a football game, I was piecing them back together with tape. This is the less glamorous side of building. But we got 12 panels installed today there is nothing left to build for walls, that doesn’t involve the post and beam. I took this picture tonight as I was cleaning up to leave. The lighting wasn’t great.

12 panels is kind of a big deal - Congratulations! Can you get duplicate plans?
