Hooking Hydraulic lines up on Backhoe

Happy you're up and going (minus window).

As a newbie tractor owner, had the same trouble remounting BH last summer. Like you, had to wait until same time of day/temperature as when I removed it, and have resolved to settle it on blocks next time to avoid overpressure from sinking outriggers.

Question: how big a difference does hooking the lines together really make? Unfortunately, by BH came with the same m/f direction on both the supply/return hoses (both ends M or F, I forget which right now, mated of course with the reverse on the tractor). I could spend $ to have my dealer switch them next time I have it serviced, so that I can hook them together, but checking first whether it's an important enough fix to warrant doing so.

It helps because when you disconnect some pressure is released. Most of the time that is enough to make connecting easier. I wouldn't change the ends, just rig up a female to female adapter and keep in your toolbox.

What would be interesting is for someone to put a pressure gauge on and see how much pressure really is increased with temperature rise. I know it increases but how much?

It does not fix the problem in my experience as the pressure locks the connectors together. This might depend on the connectors (or how hard you're willing and able to pull on the release sleeve) but I have had it with two different makes of connectors.

You must have a different setup than my 3725. When I bought the BH (a while after I bought the tractor) they included a loop of hose that goes on the back, in line with the hose that goes to the rear remotes valve block above the PTO output. It's got a male and female connector. It always has to be connected when the BH is off. Otherwise flow does not get to the 3pt and the system would be dead headed. When I attach the BH I disconnect the loop connectors and connect the BH into the loop. The BH has a male and female to match.

If it's possible to get your BH hoses reversed by accident that's not good. It could damage the expensive BH valves. It's not hard to swap the quick connects. They all are threaded onto the hoses. Buy a tube of Loctite 545 and clean the oil off the threads before applying. Pipe threads are designed for 200 psi so they need some help to handle 2500.

Eric, I think his uses the rear remotes and yours uses power beyond. I would think getting his swapped would only mean he had to move his remote valve the opposite direction.

Sorry bout the window.

It's not uncommon to see owner/operators on here that have a piece of equipment that is much more complex than their understanding. On the other hand it is uncommon to see one that so readily admits their own limitations!!!! I appreciate your honesty. You'll get this figured out. As you said, just slow down a bit and think thru these things a little better. A visual inspection of potential problems before action is taken.

Here is how I store my back hoe when not in use. I have a chain between the outriggers and raise the outriggers until the chain is taught then I unhook the lines from the tractor.
The chain carries the load of the hoe and the line are easy to depressurize.

This is a really good solution. I'm going to be setting it on blocks in the pole barn when we take it off again. Like you and others stated, the pressure on the outriggers are the source of the problem.

So you basically have no weight on the outriggers? They are only there to stop an unintentional tip over?

The outrigger cylinders have no load on them. The chain is keeping the legs from spreading.

Well, there's really no shame in admitting my mistakes. I'm here to learn on the forum, not pretend I'm a professional...haha. I'm sure this won't be the last mistake, but hopefully its a learning moment

Yeah I chain the outriggers too but I'm still gonna get the Parker connect-under-presser couplers.
