I was raised in what are now called the dark ages, prior to 1960. We learned proper English composition starting in the 6th grade. i took English as a HS freshman, 1950, and was bored stiff as the teacher had nothing new from what I learned in grammar school. Most of what I write comes out in conformance, but I do make mistakes. The last 30 years I have been appalled at how many so called educated (college schooled) people cannot even properly construct a simple sentence. I have done technical writing for 40 years+ and subscribe to the fact we have to write documents so a 6th grader can understand the text. Modifiers are a no no in technical writing, especially prepositional phrases. 9 times out 10 a prepositions can be eliminated.
Here on TBN the biggest problem I have is long winded compound sentences and lack of good paragraphing. A whole page w/o a paragraph break, I get lost in the verbiage after 3 -4 sentences.
Give folks a break, most write as they talk instead of composing what they say. This is not English class. Read between the lines and extract the meat and ignore the rest. Schools need to get back to English and get away from political propaganda.
