Was watching a documentary on the weekend about a couple of twelve year old Indian Boys who mine coal. No safety equipment or much else. Just get the coal out any way you can and put into big baskets and loaded onto trucks. Their Dad got squashed in an accident in front of the boys. Skull split open and his eye popped out. Probably no stopping the process except to remove the body.

Not everyone on the planet is deciding on whether to buy another SUV or maybe a TESLA.

This rose colored glasses, EV thread definitely needs some, counter information

Why do you say that?

This is just a thread about EV's of today and tomorrow that are here today and plan to be here tomorrow. There is no counter information like asking if it is raining outside. One just has to look outside. If they see rain then the answer is yes. When we look outside and see EV's then we know EV's are real because they are running up and down the road. As gas and diesel engine makers stop producing them in mass people will still want to get around and haul things.

I can see how you may agree with Elon Musk that Robo Taxis will meet our transportation needs for moving people but I for one think autonomous vehicles will not be under the 2020 Christmas tree.

I asked the UPS driver the other day if they had any electric delivery vans yet. He said he heard that had some or they were on order but they semis that ran on natural gas. The link below states how they are using CNG.

I suspect it depends on the area. I was at a gas station a while back, and there was a large new-looking propane delivery truck next to me, filling up with diesel.

I asked him if they have any propane powered delivery trucks. He said they stopped buying them years ago. They have power issues cold weather (which is when they deliver the most propane), and they had difficulty getting someone to do maintenance on them.

Perhaps in a warmer environment they would work better, and there would be a better support structure in place.

That is odd, we have propane forklifts at work and they pull liquid propane out of the tank, then run it through a vaporizer (which is heated by coolant), doesn't matter how cold it gets, they have gaseous propane to run the engine (once they get warmed up).

That's a good point. My feed store also has a propane powered forklift that they use year round. Perhaps it's related to larger engines that need more power?

They would just use a larger heated vaporizer to match the engine size.
Here is one that is rated for 325HP peak and 200HP continuous: Model PE Regulator / Vaporizer

I don't know. It's just what a stranger told me at a gas station, so I could definitely be wrong.

There are significant deposits of cobalt and many rare earth elements in the sea floor...The US has been sitting on it's hands while other nations are not only mining but developing more environmental friendly and more productive methods of sea floor mining...The US needs to get off its butt and get with the program...and stop dreaming about mining in outer space...
Ocean floor mining is prohibited by cost and by environmentalists .
