Looking at buying a tracked skid steer, and forrest mulcher.
Looking for any and all advice in buying operating.

Used a Kubota 95hp with drum mulcher.
Looked at JD. Liked the way the controls were arranged. Did not like that it was all computer controlled.

Lot of cost here do not want to make the wrong choice.

I just bought a used tracked John Deere 333D with 2464 hours on it for personal use.
What is yor budget? Are you looking to buy new or used. Are you looking for a machine weight of 10,000+? What options are you wanting, obviously high flow is going to be a requirement for a mulcher.

if you are looking at the mulchers id be getting the most power high flow you can get, is this going to be for a business or personal use? will you be hauling it to jobs? if so, what do you have to haul it with? what are your plans specifically?

Buying it for myself.
Been think 74HP. Would like more HP but can't really justify the cost VS return on investment so more HP is really hard to do.

what are you clearing brush or large trees? how much as in acres? size of material in diameter and thickness? flat or hilly terrain? i do not think you are going to be pleased wtih 74hp on a drum mulcher - those things consume HP like you wouldnt believe - need a little more info

Trees and Brush. Heavy under growth. 50 acres. Hilly, rocky, some low wet areas, also around ponds.
Can work slow.

well if you have time..............you will have to go much slower and wait for the drum to spin back up, you will need the hi-flow w/out a doubt which will eat more HP and create more heat on the machine, are you getting NEW because of teh financing/interest rates and payments?

you will be waiting for teh drum to spin back up significantly on a 75hp machine period, look at the specs, even on hi flow you get less than 30gpm but on a 95hp machine you get 40, that is significant in oil flow when it comes to spinning the drum, not to mention a ton/2K more of weight to handle the roughness of teh drum out in front and undulating ground and up/down with the bucket to chew things up, you will have an easier time getting rid of a 95hp machine than a 75 around here, i looked at the kubota specs just for reference but i can assure you most any major manufacturer is going to run very similar the takeuchi will likely be the heaviest

I just hired a guy to remove a bunch of trees off a 2 acre area in a creek bottom around a field - he used a turbo max type blade to remove them and he had a brand new 95-2 kubota and traded his 90-2 in on it bcause he said he needed more power and that turbo saw doesnt use as much power/flow as the drum mulcher

its frustrating as heck trying to work when you are waiting on hydraulics and power - to me its maddening!!! i have been there done that with smaller skid steers just doing dirt/gravel work and hated every minute of it

are you wanting to clear the entire thing, just make trails or ? there is no way i would get a 75 and put it on a drum mulcher but thats just me

how much are the payments giong to be on something like that each month? might be better to use someone elses machine or pay someone to do it

a couple other thoughts for you, first thank you for serving and keeping us all safe!!!!

Regarding the property and variety, sounds like the track machine is a good choice - regarding electronics, they are very electronically ran these days takeuchi was teh least last time i ran one but that was a tl10, the kubota 75 i ran was more refined the deere/bobcat were most rhobust in fancy/bling

what are you plans with the property after clearning, are you clearing 100% 50%, making trails only or ? going to farm it? going to plant new stuff and maintain it, if so what?

The property is two properties Both have been in the family for many years.
We have been fighting trees and brush on the 50'ish acre areas for as long as we have owned them. Lots or work and as I get older it gets harder. So I thought I would get equipment to make it easier.
