I'm wondering if we're not making a bigger thing out of Covid-19 than it warrants? Twenty times more people die every day in car wrecks than have been dying from Covid-19. Should we stop driving?

Here is some excellent wisdom on the matter. It’s now clear that COVID-19 is a deadly serious global pandemic, and all necessary precautions should be taken. Still, C. S. Lewis’s words—written 72 years ago—ring with some relevance for us. Just replace “atomic bomb” with “coronavirus.”

Posted elsewhere, but here is a link to an excellent article about Francis Collins' take on the coronavirus. He's one of the world's top scientists, a veteran of several different administrations, a man of faith and he was raised on a farm. Interview With Francis Collins of NIH - The Atlantic

He doesn't have the predictions we would want, but he also isn't all doom and gloom. It's a good read.

The difference in your analogy is when the car wreck is over and someone dies....it's finished. The car does not keep going down the road and killing more people. This virus keeps on going and infects a couple more people, then those infect more... That's why we're asked to self isolate by 6'. Keep the spread down. (Stop the wrecks!)

Good analogy about cars don't keep going. On the other hand, I've seen some people that seem to be 'wreck magnets'. Of course, I didn't every car wreck ended up with someone dying, nor does catching the Covid-19 kill everyone.

I sure agree that we need to do anything possible to restrict the spread of any disease or illness. Hopefully we can suppress Covid-19 with better results than we did in the past with Malaria, tuberculosis, leprosy, influenza, smallpox and HIV. Off topic though, I also think we need to get serious with auto drivers.

Good news Eddie!!! That means Spring is crawling Northward. I'll probably mow the first time in about 3 weeks.

LOL, not here!
Still can't see out of some windows plus it snowed last night.
My drive has about a 6-8 inch ice buildup so it'll be a messy spring thaw, I had to spread abrasive as my hilly section is barely drivable.

Since the virus will keep me home and mostly indoors I stocked up on wine and scotch today.

The gov't store had us line up with 3 ft separations and would toke only plastic, no cash.(germs, you know)
Also they refused to touch any CC's or reward cards and used a portable scanner asking us to flip it right side up.

I was amazed on how much beverage some were buying. One had at least 70-80 bottles of wine and hard stuff in his cart.

One person commented on what the birth rates would be like nine months from now.

When they reach adolescence they will likely be known as "quaranteens"

I've mentioned it before, and so have a few other folks, that this current virus is IN ADDITION TO all other forms of illness that can currently kill us. It's piling onto the system more people than the system can handle. Hospitals are running out of PPE for their staff. If the staff gets infected, they can't work. If they can't work, more people can't get treated. More untreated people spread more illness.

Even with so many flu deaths in America each year, when's the last time you heard about hospitals being overwhelmed? Not very often. Why not? Because they are geared up to handle that annual amount of flu-related illness most years. This is IN ADDITION TO the flu.

One of the problems I had not foreseen is that some health workers must dispose of PPE after every patient, to prevent infecting the next one,

That's a good one! :)

Yes... even a simple procedure generates a garbage bag of paper products... drapes, gowns, gloves, mask... etc.

Just about everything is single use disposable for infection control.

That one would fit over in the "Favorite Quotes" thread.
