My goal is to make some good decisions regarding my retirement (today is my last work day unless I decide to get a job again).. most of it is internet and phone, talking with my wife.. I don't get out too much so generally so really not much difference.. If I have time left over after retirement planning, then I have a bunch of waiting projects here at home that can benefit from some focused time..

Congrats on your retirement. Don't worry about this current situation. It'll blow over. Concentrate on yourself. I'm 8 years in. I highly recommend it. Hours are great!!!! :)

I suspect the above bolded. But just like shooting a pistol you should focus on the front sight (your index finger in this case) Let the target go slightly blurry (spot on the wall)
Nothing wrong with using the index finger to do the mag dump. Lots of people do that. Do what works best for you.

No one can focus on 3 planes at the same time. The younger you are the more rapidly you can switch back and forth and seem to focus on all three at once. This is why older people really gravitate to red dot reflex type sights. But even young people can benefit from them. Everything appears in one plane. With "iron" pistol sights you should place the most focus on the front sight, and by definition the rear sight and the target will be more out of focus.
I somehow missed the idea that the finger represents the front sight. I'm familiar with the rule of focusing on the front sight. I did some IDPA matches a few years ago. I enjoyed it, but for some reason, I kind of lost interest.

I have never used a red dot sight, but my EDC has a green laser. I appreciate the simplicity of putting the dot where I want to shoot. God forbid, if I ever have a life and death need for a firearm, I can't imagine I would have the capacity to focus on the front sight while properly aligning the rear sight. Add poor lighting into the mix, and I have to think my aim would be suspect. I find it more intuitive to focus on the target.

A "red dot" sight is similar. Still just one plane. The red dot or reflex sight still puts things in one plane with the target in good focus with a superimposed dot in the same plane as the target. This is the same thing as WWII fighter planes had in the cockpit. More or less. Once you get used to the red dot it is faster than iron. I had one on my "race gun" for IPSC and it was pretty sweet.

I think you will have to be pretty close to shoot somebody and claim self defense..... More of point and shoot approach......

I never used red dot in Combat. All that was iron sight. What training I did with red dot was a steep learning curve for me. It would take several reaction incidents to get comfortable with it. Once there, it is by far superior to iron sights and much, much quicker and deadlier.

I have been practicing retirement for 19+ years.
Still have not quite perfected it.....
But.... It is my full time job,....and I am still "working" at it!

Yeah, a small percentage of the population are "cross wired", but not too many. My wife is one. She shoots a pistol right handed and is left eye dominate. She just shifts her head over behind the sights and does very well. She shoots a rifle poorly and a shotgun even worse. It is always good to know which is your dominate eye.

That's me as well. Left eye dominate and fairly ambidextrous as well. I always thought switching hands was normal, but I prefer my right hand about 60/40.

yes, there is a learning curve. But once mastered it is faster. My scores proved that.

Some passing thoughts...

What effect will all this have on state lotteries?

Since this is pretty much unprecedented as far as so many businesses etc. closing...who will organized crime prey on ?

With no sports there is obviously no sports wagering for the most part...all that money is likely still going somewhere...?...maybe there are some bootleg online video only cock fights or bullfrog races or something?

Will there be anything along the lines of a coronavirus version of elf bowling etc...?

I seen a new sport today...marble racing.
The race starts at about minute 1.40.

I can't believe I watched a second marble race!

Actually not much different than watching any car race... About the same!
