What is Your Off Road -Ranch - Farm Utility Trailer

I've seen those advertised. Seemed like a nice size and set up to pull behind a UTV. I always wondered abut the dual tires, though. What's the advantage of those over a single, wider tire?

I'm going to guess, higher load capacity, more stability.

A single axle trailer wont rip up your lawn as much as the tandem axle trailer..

I have a little box trailer like what the OP crushed. My other trailer is a old Sure-Trac trailer that only has a 4x8 deck on it. It is just a low and flat tilt trailer that is road capable. It has good tires, leaf springs, 2" coupler, and fits where ever a 72" mower will. I have used it behind my Cub Cadet, Deere, truck, tractor, and has hauled EVERYTHING. Yes, it is a bit big for a GT and small for the truck/toolcat but it does the job. It is not the best at anything but it works for so many of my jobs.

Example of one I found on-line:

Sold 4’ by 8’ Utility Trailer in Millington - letgo

Mine is red and looks new compared to this one. It makes a difference if you store it inside.

My neighbor got this trailer from Northern. He pulls it behind his John Deere Gator. It holds a pretty good load, and has good ergonomics for loading and unloading. He really likes it.

Here is the good, the bad and the ugly about that trailer.

The Good
  • My friend is rough on everything, and his well used trailer is still perfect
  • It really is a nice size, good ergonomics - everything is within easy reach
  • It hauls a lot with ease
  • The walking beam (tandem) smooths out the ride
  • The pre-trariff price was a steal
  • It is built reasonably heavy
  • The chainsaw and tool carriers are nice

The Bad
  • No issues with those narrow tires yet, but they might be an odd size. (they do help load carrying vs balloon tires)
  • Tariffs have increased the price

The Ugly
  • A few hints of Chinese Quality
  • One Wheel missing a grease zerk

All that said, this was a perfect trailer for my friend to pull behind his Gater. I would rate it an 8 out of 10. It would get a 10 if it used standard size trailer tires.

People that build their own often model them after MUTS trailers.

MUTS has a great reputation , if you are looking for something in that size/load range.

I use a jeep grand cherokee that was rolled and tore up pretty bad, driveline was fine so I used a sawsall to cut everything from the beltline up off. Used zip screws with washers and unistrut to stiffen it up a bit. SO FAR, Knock on the fake wood dash, it has carried anything I've been able to load in it.

Nice design, but spendy.

The trailer on my wish list is a 608DO made by Quality Steel and Aluminum . It is a 5' X 8" single axle dump trailer. Main reasons that I like is it is a street legal trailer, has an adjustable hitch height ( also allows interchange between ball couple or clevis hitch), self contained 12V hyd. lift. Optional combination gravel / barn door endgate and a Deck-over design. Yes , this makes the loading height higher but also leaves the whole trailer only 62 inches wide. The tread width actually straddles 30" rows and the higher bed height allows easier dumping, and higher piles with-out pulling ahead.
