I do like a tandem axle trailer or a 4 wheel cart for off road work as they are more stable on uneven ground.

I like the tandem axle (a.k.a. "walking beam" or walking arm") suspension. I have an ATV trailer with that, and it's also on my Metavic Forwarding trailer. It certainly makes a difference when pulling a loaded trailer over uneven terrain. However, I have never seen one that is also street legal. Maybe the fender requirement is an issue? Fitting fenders around them is tough.

I'm not such a fan of the 4 wheel carts in my woods. The way they corner can make them tougher to maneuver on woods trails. They do work well in more open spaces (I don't have a whole lot of open spaces, however.)

Weigh load probably up to 1000+ pounds

I'd push that up a bit, if you can. The 1000# rated trailers out there are just too light duty. I think my old Rubbermaid cart is rated for something like that. It was a good match for a riding lawnmower, but not much else.

agree....trying to back a 4 wheel cart, on a hill, between trees, may prove to be difficult at times.

My neighbor got this trailer from Northern. He pulls it behind his John Deere Gator. It holds a pretty good load, and has good ergonomics for loading and unloading. He really likes it.

Looked at that but not keen on the dual wheel configuration, have lots of "stuff" on property to jam between duals... If it had high flotation "turf" style tire I would put it up near top of list for consideration...

I have a Woodland Mills "t-rex" ATV trailer. 6 1/2' Dump bed with a hand winch to raise it, total capacity 2000 lbs. My Honda Pioneer 600 hauls it up steep hills with no problem. They have a new model called the Multilander that looks like it addresses many of the issues I have with mine, like the worst "galvanizing" that I have ever seen on the frame and having to remove the tailgate to dump. And adds some new features that look useful. Other than those problems and a super cheap winch that I need to replace, it's a good trailer. The walking beam does well on rough terrain. Given how much I have to back up, often in confined spaces, I ruled out a wagon style trailer pretty quick.

There are some nice street legal ATV trailers but many of those are not readily available in California. It's not a feature that makes sense for me but I can see how it would for many.
