The bees are back

You've said that before.

Yes because you're obviously confused about the definition of the word....

BTW here another term to familiarize yourself with...it's "psychological projection"...I think it's what you are doing when you try to be condescending...

I am not being condescending. If it appeared that way to you I apologize.

I like to manage my fields for wildflowers, native grasses also. We've lost almost all that type of habitat around here. Everything is mowed if you can get a tractor or riding mower on it. My fields get mowed or burned in March. I like to let them go through the winter and they provide much needed food and cover for a wide variety of animals and birds. I try to let it go as long as possible before nesting season starts. Some years I don't get to it but that's ok as long as I get it before the woodys get too big. I've got three hives of bees but one died during the winter so I'm down to two. Looking forward to the honey season this year.

I have a farm property of 55 acres, almost 35 in old pasture. I just bush hogged it in FEB and I want to keep maybe 5 to 8 acres mowed near the house and barns, then let the rest revert to meadows for your reasons above. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That's awesome. I would like to have that many acres of fields. They are such a wonder. I mostly let native stuff flourish and have a lot of milkweed, goldenrod, joe pye, and some ironweed. A couple years I cranked on some little bluestem, switchgrass and indian grass. They are doing well. Would have been better to drill but I just frost seeded. The seed is relatively cheap at Ernst Conservation Seeds. Last year I planted wingstem which is a insect magnet. In the fall/winter goldfinches love it for the seeds. I have 53 acres so we're about the same. My property is mostly trees but I'm an ohio tree farmer so that's ok. About 5 acres of field. The problem these days is keeping the invasives in check. But if you stay on top of it it's much easier.
