Cuppla years back when the California drought was all the news, there was a story of an affluent community who was violating watering bans because they felt they should be able to buy all the water they could afford. Nothing could make them understand that there just wasn't enough water to go around.

It was more the wealthy in the community... the rationing had steep price increases for excess usage… some were paying thousands of dollars to keep landscape... sports figures, business CEO types.

They said they are paying and by so helping the district overcome revenue shortfall which the district admitted.

The turn around is when the Names, Addresses and Business Associations were published in the newspaper along with water use...

We lived in Santa Barbara Ca. in the "80s" , Drought back then. Cachuma lake was empty.
There was a moratorium on getting a water meter, and the water bill was accompanied with a limit based on comparison with a properties previous consumption.
My wife worked in Mortgage loans at one of the banks. Some places were spending more on water each month that we were spending on rent and all utilities combined.

Wealth has it's privileged.

Re the Stimulus checks: Too poor to file taxes but you receive Social Security or other federal direct deposit? IRS says since you don't file you are unknown to IRS. You may need to prepare and file a tax return to qualify for your check.

This contradicts the legislation, which says SS info can be used by IRS to route the checks.

I don't think Easterners in particular, recognize that under California water law ALL the water belongs to someone. Like timber logging rights in the East. Per Mark Twain in the 1800's 'Whiskey is for drinking, water is for fighting over'.

The earliest Gold Rush miners dammed everything and sold water by the inch, literally an opening an inch high in a flume 12 inches wide. Water law evolved from that concept, all water is owned by someone, if you want it, buy it. Those wealthy idiots wasting water probably had full legal rights to outbid everyone for the water they wanted. Tough luck.

I have not seen 5030 post for a week. I sent him a PM yesterday but no response yet. He is a fellow Michigander who farms in southern MI. He believed he was relatively safe on his farm, and maybe he is out doing his thing; but it is not normal for him to be silent this long.

He is a high risk individual as he was/is undergoing cancer treatment. And southern MI is one of the hot spots....so hoping that he and his family are riding this out OK.

I did know that, and admit that it's a foreign concept. A lot of laws and viewpoints can probably be chased back to the early days when a region was settled; the NE reflects a lot of laws brought over from Europe. As you get farther west they are more in tune with what came later, when the settelers were more independent and singular.
Here the game isn't owned by the landowner; it's property of the state until it's harvested. That causes some friction and for years people felt that gave them the right to hunt on posted land, that viewpoint is finally changing.

I've been thinking it would be very useful to know who doesn't have it, who is sick, and who is recovered. If you haven't had it stay home. if you are sick quarantine. If you are recovered go back to work or go volunteer at the hospital. I wish the government would try to get ahead of this thing. Seems like we are playing way behind and what we are getting is the worst outcome.

regarding volunteering at the hospital....before the virus I was volunteering at the hospital and then they decided since all the volunteers are old folks that they suspended the current volunteers and went looking for younger volunteers. they were protecting us I reckon.
