Mom and her neighbors have had the same landlines and phone numbers for 50-60+ years.

I still have my landline with DSL which was the only internet working when power was off for days at a time due to the California Wild Fires...

It was interesting looking at area WiFi and one by one they disappeared and then most of the cell towers went down too.

Good old Pacific Telephone now ATT didn't miss a beat...

We got rid of our landline two years ago. In my area landlines were usually bundled with cable tv or internet, plus cable companies are joining cell phone companies for package deals. Now I don’t think you could even get one around here anymore.

Got rid of mine 10 years ago....DONT MISS IT ONE BIT

you would have thought the fires would have roasted the phone lines also

I love having my landline - mostly for my home office where I do taxes and bookkeeping. Works for my purposes, and there is an answering machine built in also. I hardly ever use my cell phone (a flip phone on PAYG) as I'm mostly at my desk anyway. :)

Nope... hung on to it for the fax for business reasons but killed that a few years ago when it seemed I was the last to fax. I see no reason anymore. The cell phone has become such a versatile tool in a portable go anywhere package. If you have a cell phone it is a no brainer assuming you have reception at home.

I got rid of my landline phone last year. I still have DSL(only ISP available) without all of the taxes and fees included with the phone. Fortunately I am able to use wifi calling with my cell phones since my cell service barely makes it to my home.

Still have my landline and, living rural, it comes in handy as mobile coverage can be spotty. Even with my mobile, I have to go to a certain area of my house or go outside to get decent coverage. An answering machine (do they still call it that?) screens all of the calls that do come over that 'number'.

I don't run WiFi so my only computer access is via ADSL... which has always been perfect for my needs. Downloads are a snap.

Had to get rid of ours a year and a half ago. It had been out for over a month and ATT said they new the issue but were not putting any new parts in their sub stations as they wanted to phase out conventional land lines as cost reduction. A learning curve for us but now we have gotten use to cel phone only

When we moved to NC in 2017 we got a land line as part of a triple stack tv/internet/phone deal because it was cheaper to have than not. Plus we always had a landline. We seldom used it and did not provide the number to anyone. When we dropped cable we dropped the landline too. With decent cell service we do not miss it.

Actual land line is gone, but we still have a house phone using a Verizon home phone box which uses cell technology. We switched because CenturyLink had gotten over 50 bucks/mo for basic service and the Verizon is better service for half the cost.

We have a land line and that's what our DSL uses. The internet connection is fast enough for us and dependability is good as well, so we'll not be getting rid if it.

Land line is a must as cell is very spotty due to hills.
But then land line depends on batteries which fail during outages.
Fiber optics are 1/2 mile away (where batteries are).
They want us to have cell/tv/phone in order to have 'bundle prices' consequently I need 3 different providers (costly).

Presently a small independent is providing our internet and does so admirably well and at a decent price.
AND we are but 1 hour from Canada's 2 nd largest city!

Landlines for 35 years here, sketchy cell phone service is too unpredictable.

Even the phone companies are moving away from traditional landline technology. We haven't had a landline for quite a while, but our phone company recently installed fiber optic service in my area, so I switched to that for internet only.

As part of the installation at my home, they completely removed the old box outside my home for the phone line, and they cut all the wires going into the house for the unused phone lines.

I strongly suspect that I have no option to revert to a traditional landline service. If I wanted something equivalent, they would setup something using the fiber optics with VOIP technology.

Look it up-AT&T was supposed to end land line service this year.

It sounds like a lot of people believe that if you have dsl, you must have landline phone also. I did that also for for years but got tired of all of the taxes and fees that they added to the phone service. These taxes and fees are not applied to internet service. Last year I dropped the phone service and continued with the dsl. I am able to use my cell phone with weak cell signal by using a cell phone that can make and receive wifi calls connected to my router. Centurylink dsl is my only option.
