Good friends are more valuable than stuff.

And that is why I am not going to ask for anything at all.

At the time of the damage, he did inquire about the name and phone number of the dealership so he could replace the hood. But it's been more than 6 months, maybe pushing a year now, and no follow up on that. I bought my tractor brand new, and I'm tired of looking at the damage which is why I am bringing it up now. I feel enough time has passed if he wanted to do anything. Now I can proceed and do it on my own.

The hood is metal. There are two headlight assemblies (left and right.) As far as I can tell, only the right one would need to be replaced. And I know nothing about body/fender work-- so maybe that is a less expensive option? I will have to check that out. I'm away from the tractor right now, but early next week I can get a picture of the hood posted here.

When we first started for the day, one of the others that were with him said: "I bet that tractor comes back damaged." So maybe he knew much more than I did.

This friend visits periodically. So I am thinking about the next time I'm asked the same thing, and how to respond ....

Have you proceeded to the point of taking pictures?

I think you forgot "pay some." :D

If it was being used on my property and doing work for me then I wouldn't feel right harping about it to the guilty party. Accidents happen and a valuable lesson would have been learned...some friends cost you money.

So, Post a few pics of the damage.

I'm away from the tractor now, but I was able to download this picture taken the day of the damage.

As a thank you, I gave each person a $100 Amazon gift card and we took them out to a steak dinner. Total about $1,000. If a new hood is $1,000+, it cost me over 2 grand to get about 5 cords of split wood. :(

Now I'm wondering, as someone suggested, if a body shop could do a reasonable repair? If I could come up with a headlight assembly?

Likely if you remove the hood and take it to a "mom and pop" body shop they could dolly it out for you fill and repaint. Probably a lot less than a dealer would charge. In essence you are doing some of the work yourself. Of course you have to have enough of a critical eye to decide what all needs to come off and how you are going about fixing the lights etc.

That seems like very minor damage to me. Sure you need to replace the light bezel and rebend and fit the grill metal a bit and take the hood off and take it to the body shop. I doubt they would charge you that much to repair that. If it was mine, I would knock it out myself. but if you want a professional job, take it to a body shop and get an estimate. You should be able to be made whole for a whole lot less than any $1000.
